Ruth Langsford Admits Feeling 'Broken' After Eamonn Holmes Split
Ruth Langsford has given her most candid interview yet about the end of her marriage to Eamonn Holmes, revealing she felt blindsided and "broken" when their relationship suddenly collapsed. The television stars, who had been together for 27 years and married for 14, separated abruptly in May 2024, sending shockwaves through the entertainment industry.
A Sudden and Devastating End
Langsford, 65, told the Daily Mail that she believed she had a "very happy marriage" and was completely unprepared for the split. "I just didn't think I'd find myself here, and I wasn't strong at the start," she admitted. "I was broken. Broken heart. Broken dreams. We all have an image of how we think our life and future is going to be. This wasn't mine."
The Loose Women star described the separation as a "huge shock," explaining that they had gone from being a couple navigating the normal ups and downs of marriage to an abrupt conclusion. "I was devastated," she continued. "It was a massive blow that left me questioning everything: did I miss something, was I not aware, was I too busy? But there's no point playing the blame game."
Seeking Support and Moving Forward
While Langsford credits her close friends with rallying around her during the difficult period, she also turned to professional therapy to help process the sudden breakup. "Girlfriends are there for you come what may, but I needed a trained counsellor, someone who didn't know me, to help me see the way through all the darkness," she revealed.
The couple, who worked together regularly presenting ITV's This Morning from 2006 to 2021, share a 23-year-old son named Jack. Langsford has largely avoided public commentary on the split until now, choosing instead to focus on healing privately.
Different Paths After Separation
Following their separation, Holmes quickly moved on, beginning a relationship with counsellor Katie Alexander. The pair went public with their romance in 2024, just months after the former television hosts confirmed their split.
In contrast, Langsford is taking her time before considering a new partnership. "I'm not ready for a new partner, I haven't healed from the last one," she admitted. During a Loose Women discussion about intimacy later in life, she confessed she would feel "anxious about a new partner."
Finding Strength in Independence
Despite the initial devastation, Langsford has discovered newfound resilience since the breakup. She has realized that she's "independent and quite strong" on her own. "It has taken me a bit of time [to realize that] and I don't know what lies ahead, but that chapter now feels quite exciting," she said in November last year. "It's not as scary as I thought."
Reflecting on her years with Holmes, Langsford acknowledged, "I had many happy years with Eamonn. It just didn't last. Now I have to look forward." Her journey from feeling broken to embracing an independent future marks a significant personal transformation following one of British television's most notable celebrity splits.
