The 83rd Golden Globe Awards brought Hollywood's finest to The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday, with Canadian model Sabrina Elba making a particularly elegant entrance. The 36-year-old, arriving just days after her husband Idris Elba received a knighthood, looked effortlessly chic in a stunning nude gown from the Guy Laroche FW02 collection.
A Night of Glamour and Recognition
Sabrina Elba elevated her red carpet look with exquisite Jessica McCormack jewellery and a pair of classic Jimmy Choo heels. Her appearance added a personal touch of celebration to the evening, following the news that her husband, actor Idris Elba, 53, had been awarded a knighthood in the New Year's Honours list.
Sir Idris was recognised for his campaigning work against knife crime through the Elba Hope Foundation. In accepting the honour, he dedicated it to the 'many young people' at his charity, stating he hoped it would draw more attention to the need for sustained support to help youths find alternatives to violence.
The Battle for the Globes
Comedian Nikki Glaser returned to host the ceremony for a second consecutive year, promising her signature no-holds-barred humour. The nominations were led by the epic film 'One Battle After Another' with a commanding nine nods, including Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, and acting nominations for Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio del Toro, and Sean Penn.
In the fiercely competitive television categories, Netflix's hit series 'Adolescence' earned five nominations following its Emmy success. Its stars Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, and 16-year-old Owen Cooper all received acting nods, with a surprise nomination for Ashley Walters. However, 'The White Lotus' narrowly beat it with six nominations, predominantly in the acting categories thanks to its ensemble cast.
Notable Snubs and Front-Runners
The awards season saw several surprising omissions. The much-anticipated sequel 'Wicked: For Good' was a shock snub in the Best Musical or Comedy category, despite acting nominations for Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. Other notable absences included Sydney Sweeney for 'Christy' and Kathryn Bigelow's Netflix thriller 'A House of Dynamite', which failed to secure a single nomination.
Irish actress Jessie Buckley ('Hamnet') is considered the front-runner for Best Actress in a Drama, while Timothée Chalamet hopes to secure his first Globe win for 'Marty Supreme' after four previous nominations. Dame Helen Mirren has already been announced as the recipient of the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement, to be presented three days before the main ceremony.
The 2026 Golden Globes introduced podcasts as a new category for the first time, with contenders including 'Armchair Expert' and 'Smartless'. The ceremony, honouring the best in film, television, and now audio, continues to be a pivotal event in the entertainment calendar.
