Sinbad, the 69-year-old comedian and actor, has announced his return to the stand-up stage nearly five years after suffering a stroke in 2020. In an Instagram clip posted on Wednesday, he expressed excitement about a pair of sold-out performances at the Comedy Ice House in Pasadena, California.
Comeback After Health Setbacks
Sinbad, whose real name is David Adkins, explained the challenges he has overcome during his recovery. He has been using a wheelchair since the stroke. 'I can't walk - since the stroke in 2020, I have not been on stage,' he said. 'I'm so looking forward to these shows. I got so much stuff to talk about. I'm gonna be talking more trash than I ever talked.'
In the caption, he wrote: 'Some moments you don't rush. You just wait until they're ready. Tonight is one of those moments. Thank you @theicehousecc for making this homecoming possible. Can't wait to see y'all tonight. It's been a long time coming.' He added to fans: 'I thank you for all the prayers that people prayed for me - it worked.'
Sharing the Stage with Family
Sinbad revealed that he would share the stage with his daughter, comedian Paige Bryan, and his longtime opener Chase Anthony. 'I'm coming back to the stage - and I'm bringing family with me. First time sharing the mic with my daughter,' he said, noting that she 'talks more trash than I talk.'
Bryan described the experience as 'bigger than I can fully comprehend.' She said: 'Tonight, I'm opening for the man, the myth, the legend himself. My daddy makes his return back to the stage at the legendary Ice House.' She also opened up about the challenges her father faced, noting that most comedy clubs are not ADA accessible, making it difficult for him to attend her shows. 'It's been heartbreaking to be on this journey without my biggest cheerleader,' she added.
