Whoopi Goldberg Addresses Epstein Files Appearance on The View
During Tuesday's episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg made an awkward on-air confession regarding why her name appears in the Jeffrey Epstein files. This revelation came shortly after reality star Savannah Chrisley was controversially introduced as a guest panelist for the rest of the week.
Goldberg's Explanation of the Email Correspondence
The 70-year-old co-host announced that her name surfaced in an email exchange between Jeffrey Epstein and a redacted individual. The subject of the email centered on efforts to find a private plane for Goldberg to travel to Monaco to attend an event hosted by Julian Lennon's charity, the White Feather Foundation.
As the email appeared on screen, Goldberg pointedly stated, 'Now, in the name of transparency… my name is in the files.' Reading the message aloud, she continued, 'It says, "Whoopi needs a plane to get to Monaco… Julian Lennon's charity is paying for it. They don't want to charter so they're looking for private owners. Here's the info."' The email concluded by asking if Epstein wanted to offer his G2 aircraft.
Co-host Sunny Hostin then stressed that Epstein declined the offer in a separate message, noting, 'And it looks like they said no thanks.'
Goldberg Denies Any Personal Connection to Epstein
Joy Behar added to the discussion by questioning, 'So, in other words, anyone can be on this list?' Goldberg went on to implore that she was neither a friend nor girlfriend of Epstein, stating emphatically, 'This is my point because, when I tell you people are trying to turn me into... I wasn't his girlfriend. I wasn't his friend. I was not only too old, but it was at a time where this is just not…. You used to have to have facts before you said stuff.'
At this point, Behar, 83, delighted in mentioning that President Donald Trump's name has appeared in the files 38,000 times. Goldberg responded, 'I can't speak to him, but I'm speaking about me because I'm getting dragged. People actually believe that I was with him. It's like, honey, come on. Every man I've ever been with you've known about 'em because either the Enquirer wrote about it, people wrote about this stuff.'
It is crucial to note that being named in the Epstein files does not assume any guilt or wrongdoing connected to Epstein's heinous child sex crimes.
Previous Speculation and Wider Impact of the Epstein Files
In January 2024, Goldberg had already shut down speculation that she was on the Epstein list. During an earlier episode of The View, she explained, 'I have to explain, because there was a fake list, and I'm on it.' Hostin, 57, jokingly asked, 'So you were on the island?' to which Goldberg replied, 'Apparently, I don't know, they said I was on an island. And I'm like, "I don't go anywhere."'
Goldberg added at the time, 'So I'm just going to say – and there's just been a lot of stuff recently, I don't know what I've done to anybody – but apparently there are a lot of the sites that are satire sites. But people don't realize that they can be harmful.'
Besides Goldberg, hundreds of high-profile individuals have appeared in the Epstein files, including politicians like the Obamas and singers like Bruce Springsteen. Since December, the Trump administration has been drip-releasing millions of emails, photos, and documents relating to the case against disgraced financier Epstein.
Federal workers spent countless hours sifting through the data and releasing them in batches across December and January. The Epstein files have had a cataclysmic impact on society, forcing top-tier businessmen and academics to resign from their posts. They have also triggered high-profile marriages to break and signaled the downfall of dignitaries like Britain's Prince Andrew, who was stripped of his royal titles in the collateral damage.
