Renowned culinary maestro Wolfgang Puck has unveiled an extravagant 70-dish menu for this Sunday's exclusive Governors Ball, the official after-party following the 2026 Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood. This marks Puck and his dedicated team's 32nd consecutive year orchestrating the culinary offerings for the prestigious event, which caters to approximately 1,500 A-list guests from the film industry.
Comfort Food Reigns Supreme at Star-Studded Affair
At a preview event earlier this week, Puck emphasised that comfort food remains the cornerstone of his approach to satisfying Hollywood's elite. "Comfort food is always the people's favourite food, like our chicken pot pie, smoked salmon pizza, our macaroni and cheese or the mini Wagyu burgers," the celebrated chef explained. He revealed that attempts to deviate from these beloved classics have historically met with disappointment from guests.
"I did some parties saying, 'I'm tired of making the pizzas,' and they ate our stuff and they said, 'Wolfgang, where's your pizza station?'" Puck recounted, highlighting the enduring popularity of his signature dishes among the glamorous attendees, who often arrive at the glittering post-Oscars event feeling famished after the lengthy ceremony.
Global Flavours and Innovative Additions
The meticulously curated menu for the 2026 Governors Ball showcases a diverse array of global tastes designed to tantalise palates. Among the innovative additions this year are a live izakaya station offering Japanese-style pub fare and an Italian gelato machine serving freshly churned ice cream. These new offerings complement the perennial favourites that consistently grace the menu year after year.
Puck stressed that quality and simplicity remain paramount when cooking for such a large, discerning crowd. "It's all about the quality of the ingredients and the quality of the dishes," he elaborated. "We have to cook for 1,500 people. We keep it simple. We don't need 10 sauces with it."
Monumental Culinary Operation
Assembling this monumental banquet requires a formidable team of culinary professionals. The operation involves 75 savoury chefs, 45 pastry chefs, and 325 front-of-house staff and managers working in coordination to deliver an unforgettable dining experience.
The staggering quantities of ingredients required for the event include:
- Approximately 200 pounds (91 kg) of dry-aged ribeye
- 300 pounds (136 kg) of house-smoked salmon
- 30 pounds (14 kg) of Kaluga caviar
- 500 pounds (227 kg) of wild mushrooms
- 200 pounds (91 kg) of Nishiki rice
- 400 pounds (181 kg) of assorted cheeses
The kitchen team will prepare approximately 600 homemade pizzas, 3,000 artisanal artichoke agnolotti, and 2,000 miniature chocolate Oscars as part of the lavish spread. A particularly extravagant touch involves two gallons of 24-carat liquid gold, destined exclusively for a special chocolate Oscar spraying station that adds a shimmering finish to the dessert creations.
Wolfgang Puck's enduring partnership with the Academy Awards represents one of Hollywood's most cherished culinary traditions, blending comfort food sensibilities with global gastronomic innovation to create an unforgettable dining experience for the entertainment industry's most celebrated figures.
