Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo has secured her fourth UK number one single, the Official Charts Company has confirmed. The 23-year-old artist topped the singles chart with her latest track, "Drop Dead", which serves as the lead single from her forthcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, slated for release in June. The accompanying music video for "Drop Dead" features Rodrigo dancing and running through the historic Palace of Versailles.
This latest achievement marks Rodrigo's fourth time at the pinnacle of the UK singles chart, following the success of "Vampire" in 2023 and her 2021 hits "Driver's Licence" and "Good 4 U". Her new single dethroned Sam Fender and Olivia Dean's "Rein Me In", which had enjoyed a five-week reign at the top spot.
Skindred Celebrate First Number One Album
Meanwhile, Welsh metal band Skindred are celebrating their first-ever UK number one album with You Got This. The Newport-based trio proudly declared themselves the "first Welsh Ragga Metal Punk band from Newport to hit number one." They had been in a tight race with singer Jessie Ware throughout the week, with both acts urging their fanbases to propel their records to the summit.
The band, whose previous album Smile narrowly missed the top spot in 2023, expressed their gratitude to fans. Speaking to Official Charts, the three-piece stated: "All of us in the band are absolutely blown away by the amazing reaction and support to our new album. We want to say thank you to everyone who came out this week to buy a copy, especially all of those in our extended family in the rock and metal communities." They also extended congratulations to Ware, whose album Superbloom landed at number two.
Justin Bieber Surges After Coachella
In other chart news, Justin Bieber's "Beauty And A Beat", featuring Nicki Minaj, surged to third place in the UK singles chart. This jump follows his viral headline performance at the Coachella music festival in California, where the 32-year-old delivered a stripped-down set featuring just himself and a laptop. His festival appearance also saw his track "Daisies" climb to number five, while Tame Impala's "Dracula" secured the fourth spot.
The top five albums chart was rounded out by Olivia Dean's The Art Of Loving at number three, Zayn's new offering Konnakol at number four, and Michael Jackson's The Essential collection, which rose to fifth place. The surge in Jackson's album sales is attributed to the cinematic release of the new biopic Michael this week.
