A 72-year-old retired waitress from Darlington is set to appear on ITV's new reality show The Neighbourhood, hosted by Graham Norton, where she plans to 'grow old disgracefully' and compete for a £250,000 prize.
About the Show
The 11-part series, which kicks off on Friday, April 24 at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX, sees six households from across the UK battling it out in a street-sized popularity contest. The competing groups include The Scouse Haus, The Bradons, The Kandolas and Samra, The Lozman-Sturrocks, The Pescuds, and The Uni Boys.
The Lozman-Sturrocks
The Lozman-Sturrocks consist of Christine, 72, her husband Dave, 67, their son Jordan, 34, and his wife Katie, 29. Explaining why they entered, retired production manager Dave said: 'To represent the older generation!' Christine added: 'I'm growing old disgracefully. I'm still very, very competitive and that's what I wanted to show. There is still life in us - we can still take part and have fun. Also, to represent the North!'
She continued: 'I wanted people to see we're good people, kind and inclusive. When you get into your 70s, you don't get many chances to do many firsts.' The family describes themselves as very sociable and love being with people.
Prize Money Plans
If they win, Dave revealed he would spend the money on 'some new vinyl records. Some really rare, Northern Soul records.' Christine, however, has different plans: 'I'd go travelling while he's at home playing his records! I'd be rolled in glitter in Ibiza. Nobody would know you were 72 if you're on a podium rolled in glitter.'
Host's Comments
Host Graham Norton shared what fans can expect: 'One of the loveliest things about the show is seeing households who would never meet in real life, not only meeting but forming proper bonds of friendship. There are a few moments in the show that really do bring a tear to my eye because it's just so genuine, so lovely and properly heartwarming.' He described the show as 'properly wholesome' with bright colours and genuine bonds.
The Neighbourhood airs Friday, April 24 at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
