BTS Opens Up About Military Service and Long-Term Band Vision
Global K-pop sensation BTS has officially returned from a nearly four-year hiatus, during which all seven members completed their mandatory military service in South Korea. The band, consisting of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook, is now gearing up for the release of their fifth album, marking a significant comeback in 2026.
Insights from Military Service
In an exclusive cover story for GQ's March issue, the members reflected on their time in the military, highlighting personal growth and societal understanding. J-Hope shared his positive takeaways, stating, 'Humans are funny because they learn to adapt pretty quickly. I do feel that I have become healthier and I got to learn more about life and different sides of society.' He emphasized that military service is a shared experience for every man in Korea, noting it as a valuable period for meeting new people and gaining perspective.
Reunion and New Album Details
The five-time Grammy nominees announced their return at the start of 2026, sending a special alert to their devoted ARMY fanbase via mail. Their 10th studio album is scheduled for release on March 20, ending the hiatus that began with their military enlistment. The band, aged 28 to 32, included a handwritten letter signed by all members, with leader RM expressing, 'Waiting for (this comeback) more than anyone else,' as reported by Korea Times.
Future Aspirations and Band Unity
As they prepare for their global comeback, the members discussed their enduring bond and future goals. Jimin underscored the importance of teamwork, saying, 'I know we're here because we are a team and we started as a team and we very much acknowledge that. And also, we have a lot of fun together.' Suga provided insights into the album's themes, explaining, 'I think as artists and as individuals, you have to be able to express both the positive and the negative sides of life. I think we are slowly heading that way because this album has a lot of introspection and thoughts… things have changed and we are still changing.'
Dancing into the Decades
Looking ahead, Suga teased the band's long-term vision, suggesting they could continue performing for decades. He said, 'If we can keep this going, then maybe we can be dancing in our 60s... As long as we're willing—I think maybe into our 50s, into our 60s—we can always be together as a band.' This sentiment reflects the group's commitment to staying united and active in the music industry.
Member Messages to Fans
Individual members shared heartfelt messages with fans, building anticipation for their reunion. Jimin and J-Hope declared 2026 as 'the year we finally meet again,' while Suga encouraged, 'Let's have a joyful year together!' V promised, 'In 2026, we'll make even more and even better memories together. So please look forward to it!' Jungkook affirmed his dedication, stating, 'My heart has always been the same. I'll keep doing my best, just as I always have.' Jin expressed excitement about returning as part of the team after his solo endeavors, saying, 'I've greeted you as a solo artist over the past two years.
