Hyuna collapses during festival performance

South Korean pop sensation Hyuna caused alarm among festival-goers when she collapsed on stage during her performance at the Waterbomb Macau event on Sunday, 9 November.

The On-Stage Incident

The 33-year-old artist, whose real name is Kim Hyun-ah, was midway through performing her 2011 hit Bubble Pop! when she suddenly stumbled and fell. Disturbing footage captured by audience members shows the moment Hyuna lost her footing, with two backup dancers immediately rushing to her assistance.

A security team member subsequently carried the unresponsive singer off the stage, leaving the audience in a state of shock and concern about her wellbeing.

Aftermath and Apology

Following the incident, Hyuna took to Instagram to address her fans directly. She expressed deep regret, writing: "I'm truly sorry. It was only a short time since my last performance, but I wanted to show you my best side."

In a concerning admission, the former Wonder Girls and 4Minute member revealed she had "no memory" of the collapse, stating: "I don't think I've been able to be a pro. Actually I don't remember anything either."

Hyuna pledged to focus on improving her physical condition, saying: "I'll try to build up my stamina and work hard consistently. It will be so great if everything goes my way, but I'll try my best."

Ongoing Health Concerns

This isn't the first time Hyuna has faced health challenges that affected her career. In 2020, she postponed both her single Good Girl and album I'm Not Cool after developing a fainting condition related to low blood pressure. The previous year, she publicly disclosed her struggles with depression and panic disorder.

Recent social media activity has raised additional concerns among her fanbase. In early October, Hyuna posted about beginning a "strict diet", telling herself: "Hyun-ah, you ate way too much. Let's snap out of it and go on a strict diet. You liked being skinny, right? Let's do it again."

More alarmingly, she recently revealed she had lost 10kg in just one month, bringing her weight down to 49kg. For her height of 164cm, this places her in what the NHS considers an unhealthy weight range. Despite this, Hyuna suggested she wanted to lose more weight, commenting: "It's so hard to change the first digit from the 50s. I still have a long way to go."

Fans have flooded her social media with supportive messages, urging her to prioritise her health. One follower wrote: "I want to see you healthy and happy, sis. Take good care of yourself," while another added: "Hyuna we love you!! Hope you are healthy."
