Jarvis Cocker to Host BBC Radio 6 Music Show as Iggy Pop Takes Break
In a significant shift for BBC Radio 6 Music, Iggy Pop is stepping back from his long-running Sunday night show for a year-long hiatus, starting in 2026. The legendary rocker, who has hosted the programme for 12 years, will focus on music projects during this period, with plans to return in 2027. His final broadcast before the break is scheduled for 29 March 2026, airing from 4pm to 6pm.
Britpop Icon Steps In as Replacement
Taking over the slot from 5 April 2026 will be Jarvis Cocker, the frontman of the iconic Britpop band Pulp. Cocker is no stranger to BBC Radio 6 Music, having previously hosted a show on the station for seven years before departing in 2017. He has expressed excitement about his return, highlighting the opportunity to reconnect with listeners and share his musical insights.
Cocker's appointment marks a notable change, bringing a British indie and alternative music perspective to the Sunday evening schedule. His experience and popularity are expected to maintain the show's high standards during Pop's absence.
Weekend Schedule Expands with New Addition
Alongside Cocker's takeover, BBC Radio 6 Music is enhancing its weekend lineup with the addition of US singer Beth Ditto. She will host the Saturday morning slot from 4 April 2026, bringing her dynamic style and diverse musical tastes to the station. This move aims to refresh the weekend programming and attract a broader audience.
The changes reflect the station's commitment to evolving its content while honouring its legacy of quality music broadcasting. Listeners can look forward to a mix of familiar and new voices, ensuring a vibrant and engaging radio experience throughout 2026.
