BBC Comedian Lucia Keskin Parodies Gogglebox After Show Snub
BBC Star Parodies Gogglebox Over Show Snub

BBC comedian Lucia Keskin has taken a humorous swipe at the popular Channel 4 series Gogglebox after her own show failed to receive recognition from the programme's famous couch critics. The 24-year-old entertainer, who rose to fame through her YouTube impressions under the moniker Chi With A C, has incorporated a parody of the television review format into her BBC sitcom, Things You Should Have Done.

A Satirical Response to Being Overlooked

Keskin, who stars as a young woman abruptly confronting adulthood after losing her parents in the sitcom, has built a reputation for parodying television staples like This Morning and Coronation Street through her social media sketches. However, her BBC programme had notably not garnered any reaction from the Gogglebox panellists, prompting her to create her own satirical take on the format.

On social media platform X, she quipped: "When you can’t get actual gogglebox to watch your show, so you do gogglebox watching your show, watch gogglebox as part of your show!" This meta-commentary highlights the playful frustration behind her creative decision.

Impersonating Gogglebox Favourites

In scenes from her sitcom, Keskin dons various wigs and costumes to impersonate well-known Gogglebox regulars, including Izzi and Ellie, as well as Gyles and Mary. The sketch cleverly plays with the concept of who is watching whom, creating a layered comedic effect that has delighted fans.

Viewers quickly reacted to the parody on social media, with one fan exclaiming: "the giles and mary impression i can’t!" Another remarked: "Oh God. My brain will be fried if that clip makes it to @C4Gogglebox - imagine the confusion!" A third praised the accuracy, stating: "This is wonderful. Ellie and Izzi are more Ellie and Izzi than Ellie and Izzi," while a fourth noted: "Ended up watching this scene three times, just brilliant! You really nailed Dave!"

Balancing Dark Humour and Comedy

Keskin recently discussed the delicate balance between tragedy and comedy in her work, revealing that she often needs guidance to avoid pushing dark storylines too far. She shared with RadioTimes.com: "That's where I have to have people tell me because I will just go as dark as possible and I see no issue, and they're like, ‘no, not that, you can’t do that’."

She elaborated on her philosophy, saying: "But I just think the best, most awful things in life are the best to get through with laughing and taking the p*** out of them. I’ve always viewed it that way. I’ll just say ‘Yeah, let’s joke about that’ and they’re like ‘No, actually, we can’t.’ I did get away with quite a lot, but I was trying to push it."

Returning for a Second Series

The sitcom Things You Should Have Done has been commissioned for a second series, with Keskin jokingly responding to the news: "The BBC gave us the devastating news that we have to go again for series two which means I might actually have to work again. Gutted." Producer Steve Monger added: "We go again! Another trip to sunny Ramsgate by way of Chi’s brilliant imagination. Very much look forward to bringing the dysfunctional family back to your screens!"

This development underscores the show's growing popularity and Keskin's rising profile in the entertainment industry, as she continues to blend sharp satire with heartfelt storytelling.
