In a heartfelt and emotional moment on Sunday's broadcast, BBC Breakfast presenter Ben Boulos confirmed he is leaving the popular morning programme. The announcement, which took viewers by surprise, marks the end of his tenure on the show as he prepares to take up a new position elsewhere.
An Emotional On-Air Farewell
During the programme on Sunday, January 11, 2026, Boulos, who was co-hosting alongside Luxmy Gopal, shared the news towards the end of the show. Visibly moved, he told the audience that it would be his last appearance on the sofa for the foreseeable future.
"Just before we finish, just to share a bit of news, this is my last appearance on Breakfast for the time being," Boulos said. "I am off to take a job elsewhere but I will miss this place and this programme a lot."
He expressed his gratitude, calling his time on the show a "pleasure and a real privilege" and thanked the production teams and the viewers at home for allowing him to be part of their morning routine.
A Trusted Voice in Broadcasting
Ben Boulos has become a familiar and trusted face to millions of viewers, known for his clear delivery and warm presenting style. His role on BBC Breakfast was just one part of a significant portfolio within the BBC.
He has been a specialist in business journalism, presenting major programmes such as Business Live, Talking Business, and World Business Report. Boulos also regularly served as a main relief presenter for BBC World News, the BBC News Channel, and the World Service, reaching a combined weekly audience of over 75 million viewers.
His presenting duties expanded in April 2020 to include "Around the World By BBC News" on the now-defunct streaming platform Quibi.
What Happens Next?
While Boulos did not disclose the specifics of his new role during the broadcast, his departure creates a vacancy on one of the BBC's flagship morning programmes. His co-presenter, Luxmy Gopal, offered immediate support on air, reaching over to touch his shoulder and wishing him well.
"But for now, from Ben for the final time, and from me - enjoy the rest of your day," Gopal said, signing off the segment. "And goodbye Ben! Take care, goodbye."
BBC Breakfast continues to air daily from 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The search for a permanent replacement to join the presenting team is likely to begin shortly.
