Jeremy Clarkson's NSYNC Blunder on Millionaire Sparks Fan Backlash
ITV viewers were quick to call out a major slip-up that occurred just minutes into the latest episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Host Jeremy Clarkson found himself at the centre of a social media storm after mispronouncing the name of the famous boyband NSYNC during the quiz show.
The Million Pound Ladder Challenge
Tonight's episode, which aired on March 1, featured contestant Daniel Keeble, an insurance manager, taking on the million pound ladder. Despite quickly burning through his lifelines, Keeble managed to leave the show with a respectable £32,000. However, it was Clarkson's error that stole the spotlight and dominated online discussions.
The Question That Caused the Confusion
The blunder happened during a question about the music featured in the film Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The question asked: 'A single by which of these music acts re-entered the UK Top 40 in 2024 after appearing on the soundtrack of the film Deadpool & Wolverine.' The options provided were Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Natasha Bedingfield, NSYNC, and Kate Bush.
While reading out the choices, Clarkson spelled out the letters of NSYNC, pronouncing it as 'N-S-Y-N-C' instead of the correct 'N-Sync'. This mistake did not go unnoticed by the show's dedicated fanbase.
Social Media Erupts with Reactions
Fans flooded social media platforms to call out the host's error. One viewer tweeted: 'Jeremy saying 'N-S-Y-N-C' rather than 'N-Sync'' accompanied by a string of laughing emojis. Another penned: 'Did Jeremy Clarkson just say the band name of NSYNC by just spelling it out?'
A third comment read: 'Jeremy spelling out the band name NSYNC like that is wild behaviour,' while a fourth ITV viewer added: 'Love how Clarkson spells out all the letters of NSYNC.' A fifth fan quipped: 'NSYNC feeling humbled by Jeremy Clarkson.'
The Correct Answer and Aftermath
The answer to the question was indeed NSYNC, with 48 per cent of the studio audience guessing correctly. The band's track 'Bye, Bye, Bye' featured in the opening scene of the film, which sees Deadpool dancing to the song.
Jeremy Clarkson later realised his mistake regarding the band's pronunciation. Ahead of the ad break, he joked that he would let contestant Daniel Keeble school him on the band and how to say its name properly.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire continues to air on Sunday nights from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX, keeping audiences entertained with its mix of high-stakes questions and occasional host mishaps.
