Viewers of BBC's Saturday Kitchen have been left charmed and amused after a hilarious, wine-fuelled appearance by Mastermind host Clive Myrie, with many declaring they'd love to join the broadcaster for a night out.
A Saucy Mastermind Revelation
The 61-year-old BBC News anchor was a guest on the popular weekend cookery show to discuss his new travel series. In keeping with the programme's relaxed atmosphere, Myrie indulged in the wine on offer, which led to some candid and entertaining revelations.
He shared anecdotes from his five years presenting the iconic quiz show Mastermind, including a particularly juicy behind-the-scenes story. Myrie revealed that two contestants from the most recent series had begun a romantic relationship after meeting during filming.
"The winner last season, and one of the finalists, they... got it on!" Myrie confessed, adding with a laugh, "And by all accounts they're still together, so just like Cilla I'm looking out for my suit!" The reference to Cilla Black's Blind Date matchmaking role sent fellow guests Tom Parker Bowles, Suzie Lee, Adam Byatt, and wine expert Helen McGinn into fits of laughter.
Fans React to Clive's Charming Appearance
The moment was quickly shared on social media platform X, with one user captioning the clip: "Clive Myrie is a few wines down on Saturday Kitchen and spilling all the tea." The response from fans was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing a newfound desire to socialise with the journalist.
One fan replied, "He was a great guest, he seems a really nice guy; Obsessed, want to get wine drunk with Clive." Others echoed the sentiment, with comments like: "I can imagine a night out, or at least a couple of drinks, with Clive Myrie would be a right laugh" and "He definitely loosened up after glass three." The consensus was clear: Clive Myrie's witty and relaxed demeanour made a significant impression.
The Real-Life Mastermind Romance
Myrie's amusing gossip was firmly based in fact. The romance he alluded to is between John Robinson, the winner of the 2024 series, and fellow finalist Claire Reynolds. Robinson narrowly beat Reynolds by just one point in the final, which was filmed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in November 2024.
According to a report in The Times, the couple grew close on their journey back to England. "The show was shot in Belfast and we were both flying back to Birmingham and were on a flight together," Reynolds explained. "After we filmed the final, we had some time to kill at the airport. So we had a few drinks together and then got the plane back ... and stayed in touch."
She confirmed their friendship had blossomed into something more, stating, "Although we started as friends it's more than that now, to be honest." The pair have reportedly even started combining their formidable quiz knowledge to take on locals at community games nights.
Clive Myrie's appearance successfully blended light-hearted entertainment with a genuine human-interest story, proving that even the most serious newsreaders can become the life and soul of the party when sharing a glass of wine on Saturday Kitchen.
