Coronation Street's Abi Webster was left stunned on Monday night as her brother-in-law Carl revealed he has been running an illegal MOT scam from her husband Kevin's garage. The mechanic, played by Sally Carman, has been having an affair with Carl (Jonathan Howard) after discovering Kevin (Michael Le Vell) lied about being given the all-clear from testicular cancer.
As the episode unfolded, Carl received a threatening text from accomplice Fiona Morley and confessed to Abi that he had been passing dangerous write-offs and cut-and-shuts as roadworthy to settle huge debts. An angry Abi accused him of ruining his brother's business and bedding his wife for good measure. Despite her fury, she later agreed to keep his secret and the pair resumed their affair.
Meanwhile, Kevin invited Abi on a last-minute holiday, but she told him she had not forgiven his lies about his cancer. After a heart-to-heart with sister-in-law Debbie Webster, who has vascular dementia, Abi accepted the trip but demanded answers about the MOT scam. Kevin explained he could not report Carl without damaging the garage and wanted to protect his brother.
As Kevin spoke, Abi received a text from Carl and later confronted him, saying she had planned to end the affair and make her marriage work. Carl insisted she no longer loved Kevin, and Abi admitted he made her feel safe but reminded him she has her son Alfie to consider. The episode ended with the affair still ongoing.
