Coronation Street star Olivia Frances Brown has revealed all about Jodie Ramsey's plan to tear apart her sister Shona's marriage to David Platt, but it's not for revenge. In an exclusive interview, the actress confirmed that Jodie's motives are far more complex than initially thought.
Jodie's Plan to Seduce David
Jodie Ramsey is set to trick her brother-in-law David Platt into bed on Coronation Street this week. However, the reasoning is not what you might think. While it has been teased that this could be some sort of revenge plan against Jodie's sister Shona Platt, David's wife, Olivia Frances Brown has confirmed otherwise. Scenes this week see Jodie intent on stealing David and wrecking his and Shona's marriage.
After weeks of flirting and trying to get him alone, a discovery about Shona leads Jodie to take awkward action. But speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Olivia says her plan is not necessarily one of revenge. She teased another unexpected motive behind Jodie's latest twist and her plan to have David all to herself. Olivia explains that although Shona has hurt her, Jodie actually wants David because she has convinced herself they have strong feelings for one another.
The Real Reason Behind Jodie's Obsession
Olivia explained: "She's convinced herself she's getting feelings for him and that she's obsessed with him. She's fixating on it compulsively, but it's more to do with what David represents to her. The life Shona has, the stability, a home, safety, a relationship. Someone to have a laugh and a tea with. A normal life that she has never really had."
Discussing this further, Olivia said: "She is quite transfixed on David. I think she believes she has fallen in love with him. I think she definitely wants that to be the case. She is convincing herself that is the case. Whether or not it is actually David that is at the heart of what she wants, I don't know. Or is it more what David represents? She's never really had anyone care for her the way David cares for her. Unlike Shona, she's never really felt that. And to come in and see her sister have all the things she's missed out on in life, it sent her spiralling a bit."
Shona's Reaction to Jodie's Deception
We also caught up with Shona actress Julia Goulding, who shared how Shona would feel about Jodie's lies. She told The Mirror: "I don't think Shona will be happy with the depths of Jodie's deception, and she's got her own family to protect. I think she is gonna be quite torn."
But is it enough for Shona to want Jodie dead, with Jodie one of five villains facing being killed off this week? Julia shared: "Never say never. You know who her son is... but Shona would be more out for blood if Jodie was to die, rather than be the one to kill her. But who knows, that could be a red herring."
Teasing the Upcoming Death
Teasing who dies, Olivia added: "Prepare to be shocked, prepare to be surprised, big time." On being one of the five at risk, Olivia said: "I would have been surprised if she wasn't one of the victims, the way she's been carrying on! Trouble follows her around like a bad smell. She is always caught up in the chaos. Whatever's going on, if there is any chaos in the street, she'll probably be at the heart of it. It's the way that she is. It's who she is. It's the way she has learnt to deal with things. It's the way she goes through life."
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
