The masterminds behind the global phenomenon Stranger Things have pulled back the curtain on their next major project for Netflix. Matt and Ross Duffer, through their Upside Down Pictures production company, have revealed the first look at a chilling new horror series titled 'Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen', which is scheduled to premiere on the streaming platform this March.
A Sinister Premise for a New Horror Hit
The series, which comprises eight episodes, follows a bride and groom during the tense week leading up to their wedding, which is destined to take a dark and tragic turn. This marks a significant departure for the Duffer Brothers, as it is the first non-Stranger Things series to be released under their production banner.
Creative Powerhouse Behind the Scenes
The show was born from the twisted imagination of screenwriter Haley Z. Boston, who successfully pitched her concept to the acclaimed creators. "We were knocked flat when we first read Haley's script," the Duffer Brothers stated. "She is a major new talent with a singular voice — her writing is twisted, terrifying, funny, and just … very Haley. We feel so lucky to be producing her first show, and we can't wait to share her vision with the rest of the world."
Directing duties for the series are being handled by a formidable trio of talent:
- Weronika Tofilska, known for her work on the critically acclaimed Baby Reindeer.
- Axelle Carolyn, director of The Midnight Club.
- Lisa Brühlmann, who has directed episodes of Killing Eve.
A Stellar Cast Takes Centre Stage
The series boasts an impressive ensemble cast led by Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six, The Night Manager) and Adam DiMarco (The White Lotus, Overcompensating) as the ill-fated couple. They are joined by a strong supporting cast including:
- Jennifer Jason Leigh
- Ted Levine
- Gus Birney
Building on a Legacy of Success
The Duffer Brothers are leveraging the monumental success of Stranger Things, which concluded as one of Netflix's most-watched series of all time on New Year's Day. The finale, which saw the heroes of Hawkins, Indiana, ultimately defeat the villain Vecna, sparked intense debate among fans regarding the fate of Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown.
Ross Duffer addressed the ambiguous ending, noting: "Our goal, our hope is to leave it up to the fans, ultimately, and the audience in terms of what they believe, just as we leave it up to our characters in that basement to decide what they believe or not."
Expanding the Upside Down Pictures Slate
This new horror series is just the beginning of the Duffer Brothers' expansion beyond Hawkins. Their production company, Upside Down Pictures, has another science-fiction series titled 'The Boroughs' in the pipeline, set to arrive later this year and starring Geena Davis and Bill Pullman.
All eight episodes of 'Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen' are set to arrive exclusively on Netflix on March 26, promising to deliver a fresh dose of terror from the minds that redefined supernatural storytelling for a generation.
