A Web of Suspects and a Premature Conclusion
Detectives Priya, portrayed by Sunita Mani, and Jack, played by Jon Bernthal, lead the investigation, which quickly uncovers a tangled web of potential killers. In her letter, Alice admits to being the true murderer. Her motive stems from discovering an old video tape of Anna's, which showed a teenage Anna being assaulted in the woods by a group of men. The footage also revealed younger versions of Rachel, Helen, and Zoe watching the attack, while Catherine ran away.
Consumed by fury that these women did nothing to help her daughter, Alice took justice into her own hands. She murdered Rachel after Rachel's secret meeting with Jack, and stripped her clothes to make the crime appear to be the work of a man.
