Former Hollyoaks stars Rachel Shenton and Chris Overton are celebrating after winning the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film for The Silent Child. Shenton, who played Mitzeee Minniver on the Channel 4 soap, was the creative force behind the film, while Overton, her fiancé and former Hollyoaks actor, directed it.
They join a growing list of Hollyoaks alumni who have found success in major film and television productions. Nathalie Emmanuel, who played Sasha Valentine from 2006 to 2010, went on to star as Missandei in HBO's Game of Thrones and appeared in The Maze Runner film series and Furious 7.
Ricky Whittle, who played Calvin Valentine for five years, came second on Strictly Come Dancing in 2009 and now stars in the US series American Gods, which has been renewed for a second season.
James Corden, now a household name as host of The Late Late Show and creator of Carpool Karaoke, had a brief guest role as school caretaker Wayne in 2000, which he later described as "hell on earth". Since then, he has won Tony Awards and received an OBE.
Warren Brown, who played the sinister Andy Holt in the mid-2000s, has built a successful career in television, starring as DS Justin Ripley in Luther and appearing in dramas such as Inside Men, Homefront and Good Cop.
