Kelvin Fletcher and Wife Liz Bid Emotional Farewell to Beloved Cow Sonic on Family Farm

Former soap star Kelvin Fletcher and his wife Liz have shared a heartbreaking goodbye to their first-ever calf, Sonic, on their family farm. The couple, who have reared Sonic since he was a calf, described the moment as 'bittersweet' as they prepared him for slaughter.

In a recent episode of their farming series, Kelvin explained the emotional weight of the day, saying, 'The day has arrived to say goodbye to our first ever calf, Sonic, who's heading off on his final journey.' He admitted that saying goodbye to a cow felt different from sheep, noting, 'I was thinking about this last night, and I woke up this morning feeling a bit... it is different to a sheep.'

Kelvin reflected on Sonic's significance, stating, 'He was our first. His tag number is 001, he's our first cow. So, I guess we'll always remember this one.' The couple recalled Sonic's achievements, including winning a show, and expressed pride in rearing him. 'He's had a great life,' Kelvin said, adding that the experience brought a 'real appreciation' for the meat they produce.

As Sonic was loaded onto the trailer, Kelvin admitted feeling 'really anxious,' describing the final loading as 'surreal.' The couple emphasised the importance of honouring the animal's life and maintaining a connection with their food, with Kelvin noting, 'You want to honour your food and honour the work that's got into that.'
