Masked Singer's Sloth Star Sparks Backstage Concern with Athletic Antics

The enigmatic Sloth on The Masked Singer has captivated audiences with powerful pop performances, yet the mystery celebrity inside the costume has also raised eyebrows behind the scenes. As the competition heats up towards the semi-final, it has emerged that the performer's energetic behaviour backstage nearly alarmed the production team.

Costume Department Fears for Elaborate Outfits

Tim Simpson, the creative director at Plunge Creations and a key costume designer for the hit ITV series, has revealed that while contestants are typically enthusiastic, excessive athleticism can pose a risk to the intricate costumes. These performers are really up for it, and they really enjoy it, Simpson noted, adding that word has spread among participants about the need to be fit for the show.

He explained to Metro that Sloth, in particular, took this to another level. Sloth, who apparently not just enjoyed the costume, but got to the point where it nearly scared the production team, Simpson said, highlighting concerns over the performer's physicality, including yoga and aerobics sessions that threatened the costume's integrity. The more the performers jump around, the better they look, but the harder it is on the costume, he emphasised.

Judges Speculate on Sloth's Identity

As Sloth advances to the semi-final, the panel of judges—Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross, and Maya Jama—have been busy guessing the star's identity. Names floated include fitness guru Joe Wicks, TV chef Jamie Oliver, Good Morning Britain's Ed Balls, radio presenter Chris Moyles, and adventurer Ben Fogle. This speculation adds to the intrigue surrounding a contestant who has managed to keep their identity secret while showcasing vocal talent.

Recent Unmaskings and Contestant Revelations

The series has already seen several celebrities revealed, including Sex Pistols rocker John Lydon, rapper Professor Green, singer Kate Nash, and Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke. In a recent episode, former TV Burp star Harry Hill was unmasked as Red Panda, just missing out on a semi-final spot. Upon his elimination, Hill shared a humorous anecdote about his experience, joking that his wife thought he was choking on a Pot Noodle when she heard him sing.

Hill admitted that while he initially had reservations, the costume allowed him to perform without inhibitions. The only downside is you're breathing your own breath because it's all trapped, and I had falafel for lunch, he quipped. He also revealed that his wife inspired him to join the show, seeing it as a break after a busy tour schedule.

Show Continues with High Stakes

With the final approaching in just weeks, The Masked Singer remains a must-watch for fans eager to see who will be unveiled next. The blend of mystery, performance, and behind-the-scenes drama, as highlighted by Sloth's athletic antics, keeps viewers engaged. As the competition airs on ITV1, the spotlight remains on the remaining masked celebrities, including the surprisingly agile Sloth, whose identity continues to baffle judges and audiences alike.
