Former Call the Midwife star Pam Ferris is returning to BBC One following emotional scenes during series 15 of the period drama. The 77-year-old actress has joined the cast of Amandaland, a spin-off of Motherland, for its second season.
A New Role in Amandaland
Pam Ferris portrays Elspeth, Amanda Hughes's frail neighbour who lives in a highly desirable house. Amanda, played by Lucy Punch, is quick to befriend Elspeth. Amandaland follows Amanda, a single mum of two teenagers forced to relocate to South Harlesden (SoHa) after her divorce. In season two, she navigates mum life, her online Senuous brand, and her job at Kitchen's Bathrooms and Kitchens. When a hipster coffee shop opens, Amanda sees it as a sign of gentrification and is thrilled.
Ferris is best known for roles such as Miss Trunchbull in Matilda, Mrs. Bevan in Nativity, and Ma Larkin in The Darling Buds of May. Call the Midwife fans remember her as Sister Evangelina, an Anglican nun of the Order of Saint Raymond Nonnatus, who appeared from 2012 to 2016. Sister Evangelina suffered a stroke and died in her sleep, discovered by Fred Buckle in the series five finale. She made a surprise ghostly return in the series 15 finale earlier this year to help Sister Monica Joan pass away.

Returning cast members include Joanna Lumley as Amanda's mother Felicity, Philippa Dunne as Anne, Samuel Anderson as Mal, and Rochenda Sandall as Fi. New addition Harriet Webb also appears. Amandaland season two begins on Wednesday 6 May on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.
