This week's streaming slate offers a compelling mix of high-stakes thrillers, glossy dramas, and poignant finales, providing plenty of options for viewers across major platforms. From a tense office heist to a sci-fi tale of dangerous beauty, here are the seven best shows to add to your watchlist.
Prime Video's Tense Thriller: Steal
Sophie Turner delivers a standout performance in the new thriller Steal, which arrives on Prime Video from Wednesday 21 January. She plays Zara, an office worker stuck in a mundane job at a pensions company whose life is violently disrupted. A brutally efficient gang storms her workplace with the aim of executing a staggering £4 billion heist.
What begins as a taut crime story soon evolves into something far more complex, twisting in unexpected and mind-bending directions. The series is a clever reimagining of the perfect financial crime for the digital era. Turner's portrayal is deceptively subtle, with her character's initial apathy slowly giving way to reveal a sharp, calculating mind. Archie Madekwe also shines as her colleague, Luke.
Flashy Fantasy and Poignant Farewells
Hot on the heels of the critically panned All's Fair, producer Ryan Murphy is back with another extravagant series. The Beauty, landing on Disney+ from Thursday 22 January, is based on a 2015 comic book. It centres on a miraculous injection that promises physical perfection with the slogan: 'One shot makes you hot'.
However, this fountain of youth comes with severe side-effects: it is often deadly and mutates into a sexually transmitted virus. With carriers becoming irresistible, a global crisis ensues. A stellar cast including Bella Hadid, Rebecca Hall, and Isabella Rossellini navigate this outlandish plot with commendable commitment.
In a more heartfelt vein, the beloved makeover series Queer Eye returns for its eighth and final season on Netflix from Wednesday 21 January. This season is pointedly set in Washington DC, blending political backdrop with personal transformations. As the Fab Five – Jonathan Van Ness, Tan France, Antoni Porowski, Jeremiah Brent, and Karamo Brown – help a new group of heroes, they also reflect on their most memorable makeovers, promising an emotional send-off.
