Susanna Reid Defends 'Cramped' New GMB Studio as ITV Cuts Spark Viewer Backlash
Susanna Reid responds to 'cramped' new GMB studio criticism

Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid has publicly addressed a wave of criticism from viewers who have branded the breakfast show's new studio "cramped" and "small" following a major relocation. The move, part of wider ITV cost-cutting measures, saw the programme's first 2026 broadcast on Monday, January 5, originate from a significantly different set.

A New Home and a New Look

The flagship ITV morning show has shifted production from its previous studio to ITN's headquarters in Central London. This change is a direct result of a scheduling overhaul announced in May 2025, which also extended GMB by thirty minutes while shortening Lorraine by the same amount. Other daytime shows are now recorded at The H Club in Covent Garden.

The redesigned studio places Susanna Reid and her co-host Ed Balls in much closer quarters with their guests, a change immediately noticeable during an interview with Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch. The final broadcast from the old studio took place on New Year's Eve, an emotional moment for the team that coincided with at least 220 job losses across the broadcaster.

Viewer Reaction and Presenter's Defence

Audiences quickly took to social media platform X to voice their disapproval of the revamped look. One viewer remarked, "ITV cuts showing in the new set. So small, looks cheap and people sitting on top of each other." Another critiqued the camera angles, saying it made the presenters look like "human leaning towers," while a third simply stated the table was "too small" and that everyone appeared "on top of each other."

However, Susanna Reid appears entirely unperturbed by the compact new surroundings. Taking to X herself, she shared coverage of the changes with an enthusiastic caption: "@gmb studio = big headlines! More than happy to be closer to our brilliant guests..." Her post served as a direct counter to the mounting viewer complaints.

An Emotional Farewell and a Fresh Start

The transition to the new studio marked the end of an era for the GMB team. On New Year's Eve, Susanna Reid commemorated the move on Instagram, posting a series of photos including a full team shot before the old set was dismantled. She penned a heartfelt message thanking those not making the journey with them.

"A fabulous gathering of the BEST team in television @gmb and a farewell to those off to new adventures..." she wrote. "Goodbye to those leaving and a huge thank you to everyone who has made - and those who continue to make - GMB such a fantastic programme."

Despite the mixed reception to its new physical space, Good Morning Britain continues to air weekdays from 6am on ITV1 and ITVX. The presenter's defiantly positive stance suggests the team is focused on embracing their new home, irrespective of its dimensions.
