Viewers of ITV's The Chase expressed outrage during Wednesday's episode (17 September) after contestant Amanda begged her teammate Robbie to accept the low offer of £1,000. The plea came after two previous contestants, Shelia and Alex, were eliminated by Chaser Shaun 'The Dark Destroyer' Wallace.
Amanda, who had yet to play, urged Robbie: 'Robbie, you are capable of the top, but please go low. I know [it sounds mean] but please, I need you back here, so any money is better than no money. So please, I’m begging.' Host Bradley Walsh chuckled in disbelief at the request.
Social media users quickly criticised the moment. One viewer wrote on X: 'Seriously?' Another commented: 'Chick chick chick chicken. Hope to god you flipping lose.' A fourth fumed: 'This is an absolute joke now! Why does the low offer even exist in the first place? The Chase has gone down the toilet.'
In a separate episode of Beat the Chasers (14 September), host Bradley Walsh revealed that the Chasers lost £700,000 to contestants in the previous series. Chaser Jenny Ryan joked that by catching contestants, the team saved the show £20 million, 'or as ITV calls it, two-thirds of a Bradley.'
