Rebekah and Jamie Vardy are following in the footsteps of the Rooneys by inviting cameras into their private lives for a new ITV reality series. Titled The Vardys, the show offers an intimate look at the couple's life as they face their biggest challenge yet: leaving Leicester City after 13 years to start anew abroad.
A New Chapter Abroad
After a tumultuous five years in the UK, Rebekah is eager for a fresh start. However, uprooting their family of four children and relocating to Italy is not exactly what she had envisioned. As she navigates the emotional and logistical upheaval of the move, she reflects on recent challenges and is determined to put the infamous 'Wagatha Christie' drama with rival Coleen Rooney behind her.
Behind the Scenes of a Family Adventure
The series captures all the drama and chaos of their new family adventure, from frantic house-hunting and tearful school searches to unexpected disasters and dramatic setbacks. Meanwhile, Jamie battles to prove his doubters wrong on the pitch at the age of 38, playing for Italian Serie A underdogs US Cremonese.
This comes after Coleen Rooney participated in a Disney+ documentary titled Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, for which she was reportedly paid millions to recount her conflict with Rebekah. Louise Major, Commissioning Editor for Entertainment & Reality at ITV, expressed excitement about working with the Vardys, stating: 'At a pivotal moment in their lives, this is a rare and revealing look behind the headlines – from the highs of Jamie's football legacy to the realities of starting over as a family, with Rebekah sharing her reflections on one of the most talked-about stories of the last decade.'
Executive Producers Weigh In
Dan Grabiner and Nat Lippiett, Executive Producers at Orchard Studios, added: 'The Vardys are an iconic and brilliantly entertaining family, and this behind-the-scenes insight into their big move shows them as you've never seen them before: candid, unfiltered and completely unpredictable. Welcome to the Vardy party.'
The Wagatha Christie Saga
The documentary aired four years after Coleen posted on X and Instagram accusing Rebekah of leaking stories about her to The Sun. Sources close to Coleen revealed she was paid over £1 million following a bidding war for the four-part series. Originally, the documentary was heading to Netflix, but Disney+ bosses were so keen to secure it that they offered an astonishing fee. One source commented: 'What Coleen went through with Becky was pretty awful, there is no doubting that it was a really, really hard time for her and her family. But her show was really in demand, everybody wanted it. Coleen is the one who the public had the most sympathy with, and her inside story was always going to be gripping. She kept her counsel a lot more than Becky did throughout, so there was always going to be a lot to share in it. But still, it is a lot of money, hopefully that will have made her feel better about losing four years of her life.'
