Television personality and socialite Lizzie Cundy has shared a poignant and joyful announcement, revealing her niece has welcomed a baby girl just weeks after the death of Lizzie's brother.
A Bittersweet Announcement on Social Media
The 57-year-old mother-of-two took to Instagram on Thursday to share her happiness, posting adorable snaps of herself cradling the newborn, named Minnie. In one tender image, she is seen holding the infant's tiny hand.
Alongside the photographs, Lizzie penned an emotional caption, describing the new arrival as an 'angel' sent by the universe during a period of profound sadness. 'In the midst of such sadness with losing my brother the universe in the same week has sent us an angel,' she wrote.
She continued, expressing her pride at becoming a great aunt: 'My beautiful niece has had a beautiful baby girl called Minnie. She is the most gorgeous little girl and it’s such a blessing at such a sad time. I’m so proud to be her great Aunty.'
Heartbreak Followed by New Life
The birth comes shortly after Lizzie shared the heartbreaking news that her beloved brother, Peter, had passed away. Earlier this month, she posted a black-and-white framed picture of him on Instagram, announcing his death with a 'heavy heart'.
In a touching tribute, she described Peter as a 'much loved son, brother and uncle' who worked in theatre and film, had a great love of dogs, and was a devoted Chelsea FC fan. 'A real character and a kind soul who will be very much missed,' she added, signing off with, 'Rest in peace dear Pete.'
Lizzie also used her latest post to thank followers for their support, stating the heartfelt messages since her brother's death 'have all meant the world to us as a family.' She gave a special mention to friends Paul and Claire Sweeney for their exceptional kindness.
A Glimpse into Lizzie Cundy's World
The news of the birth arrived just two days after Lizzie publicly wished her mother, Gloria Miller, a happy 91st birthday. Gloria, a friend of Queen Camilla, resides in the prestigious Sandringham area of Norfolk and maintains a busy social life.
Lizzie has previously spoken about her colourful upbringing. Her mother was a senior manager for Jaeger and a fashion model, while her father, Derek Miller, was an art director at the Saatchi advertising agency. His work gave Lizzie an early taste of fame, as he often featured her in his ad campaigns.
However, her Catholic upbringing was strict. 'My father was a real disciplinarian,' Lizzie once revealed on This Morning, recalling having to hide boyfriends, including one she shoved into an airing cupboard and another who had to jump out of a bathroom window.
Lizzie was formerly married to Chelsea footballer Jason Cundy, with their marriage lasting from 1994 until 2012.
