A Unique Spa Experience
While spa treatments can be costly, Maycroft Retreat provides a distinctive experience. After a little over an hour's drive from Glasgow, the journey through rolling country roads builds anticipation. Owner Denise Millar, who built the retreat during the pandemic, greeted guests warmly. Her calm demeanor and introduction to her horses set a relaxing tone from the start.
Accommodation and Facilities
Maycroft offers two luxury sleep cabins with modern amenities like bathrooms, TV, WiFi, and kitchen features. Each cabin boasts breathtaking views through double doors. The outdoor facilities include a sauna in a caravan, hot tub, cold plunge pools, and an outdoor shower, all surrounding a cozy seating area. A teepee serves as a relaxation space post-treatment.
Holistic treatments are provided by Denise and another therapist. Denise's palliative care training makes treatments suitable for those with life-limiting conditions or undergoing chemotherapy. A 30-minute massage effectively worked out knots, leaving guests feeling refreshed. The cool outdoor air after the massage added to the rejuvenation.
The Cold Plunge and Hot Tub
The sauna session was followed by a cold plunge, which, despite initial hesitation, left muscles feeling stretched and revitalized. Balancing this with a dip in the hot tub filled with natural spring water prepared guests for lunch. A homemade vegetarian spread including falafel, quiche, hummus, crudités, salad, olives, and fresh fruit was served in a rustic teepee.
Afternoon hours were spent enjoying the facilities, sitting by a fire pit, or relaxing in the heated teepee. The atmosphere allowed for unhurried reflection, making the experience special. The drive back to city life felt transformative, with nature adding a unique element to wellness.
Packages and Pricing
Maycroft offers various spa days and breaks, including the new Wild Woman Renewal Spa Day and the overnight Maycroft Wellness Spa Retreat. Prices range from £150 per person to £995 for two. Sauna and cold plunge access is available from £17.50. Driving is recommended, but train to Perth plus a 15-20 minute taxi is an alternative.
