Justin Theroux has shared an update on how his beloved pit bull, Kuma, is adjusting to life with his newborn son. The 54-year-old actor welcomed his first child three weeks ago with his second wife, Nicole Brydon Bloom, who is 22 years his junior.
Theroux Praises Kuma's Gentle Nature
Appearing on the TODAY show on Thursday, Theroux described Kuma's behavior as 'perfect' and 'gentle.' He noted, 'Her energy is great.' Despite the breed's reputation for powerful bites, Theroux has observed no signs of jealousy or aggression from his canine companion, whose name means 'bear' in Japanese.
'Honestly, she reads the room. She's very tender,' Theroux explained. 'We'll bring him into the room and she'll just sort of post up near us, keep her eye on the door and makes sure nobody comes in.' During the taping, Kuma received a gift basket and happily gnawed on a lambchop toy.
Rescue Dog's Background
Theroux rescued Kuma from euthanasia by adopting her from Austin Pets Alive after Hurricane Harvey in 2018. The two-time Emmy winner has been open about his affection for the dog, who now proudly wears a 'big sister' bandana.
Fatherhood Journey
Theroux and Bloom announced the birth of their son last Saturday on Instagram, captioning a post: 'He's here, we are so in love.' Reflecting on fatherhood, Theroux said, 'I just love looking into his eyeballs. It's just beautiful, it's just a wonderful thing.' He acknowledged the challenges of the early weeks, describing 'quiet tiptoeing around the house' and 'occasional crying,' but called the experience 'so much better' than he imagined.
Theroux praised Bloom for handling the 'Herculean task of feeding' their son. He recalled being told by other fathers, 'Wait until you see this child. You're gonna fall in love,' and admitted he wondered if it would really happen. 'The minute he appears, your whole life just starts to revolve around this thing,' he said. 'Your heart just opens up in a beautiful way. So I'm really happy.'
Previous Marriage and Career Updates
Theroux was previously married to Jennifer Aniston from 2016 to 2017, though reports suggest the marriage may not have been legal. He is now focused on his growing family and upcoming projects. Theroux will reprise his role as Cam Gordon in the second season of the basketball comedy Running Point, which premiered on Netflix. He will also appear as Benji Barnes in The Devil Wears Prada 2, set for release on May 1. Additionally, the third season of Fallout has been renewed, and he has several other films in development.
