Angel Stadium in Anaheim, the home of the Los Angeles Angels, is shutting down a section of seating after evidence of a rodent infestation was discovered. According to a report from the California Post, the affected area will be cordoned off, and fans will not be allowed to sit there following the detection of rodent droppings.
Inspection Findings
The unsanitary discovery was made in a concession area at View Level 432, as detailed in a retail food facility inspection report from the Orange County Public Health Services dated April 22. Inspectors found excrement in five separate locations: adjacent to janitorial supplies, on the floor beneath storage racks, next to boxes of single-use articles, near the water heater, and beside a janitorial sink. Additionally, a hole larger than a quarter-inch was found on the ceiling, suggesting a potential entry point for the rodents.
Health Department Actions
Health officials promptly suspended the permit for the concession stand and ordered immediate corrective measures. These steps include eliminating all rodent activity using approved pest control methods, cleaning and sanitizing all equipment surfaces, food containers, shelves, and floors, and properly sealing all cracks and crevices larger than a quarter-inch to prevent vermin harborage. The stand will remain closed until all conditions warranting the closure are corrected.
In a statement to The Post, the Angels organization expressed their commitment to delivering a high-quality fan experience, emphasizing the maintenance of cleanliness across their nearly 160 concession locations. They noted that after receiving guidance from the health department, they acted promptly with their concession partner to resolve the issue at the single stand, expecting it to pass inspection and reopen in time for the upcoming homestand.
The same section had previously passed an inspection in June of the previous year, according to health records. The Angels currently hold a 12-17 record for the season, trailing by 3.5 games in the NL West division. Their next homestand is scheduled against the New York Mets, one of the few teams with a worse performance this season.
