Hailey Bieber Reveals Doctor Warned Against Pregnancy Due to Uterine Condition
Hailey Bieber's Doctor Warned Her Not to Get Pregnant

Hailey Bieber has candidly shared details about a serious health diagnosis she received prior to her pregnancy, revealing that her physician explicitly cautioned her against conceiving due to a medical condition. The 29-year-old model and Rhode Beauty founder discussed this personal health journey during a recent episode of the SHE MD Podcast, hosted by Mary Alice Haney and Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi, who also serves as Hailey's obstetrician-gynecologist.

The Surprise Pregnancy Announcement

During the podcast conversation, Haney inquired whether Hailey and her husband, Justin Bieber, had been actively trying to conceive. Hailey responded that the pregnancy was entirely unexpected, recounting how Dr. Aliabadi had previously warned her against becoming pregnant. "It was a surprise. She told me this was going to happen because she was like," Hailey explained, gesturing toward her doctor, who interjected: "I told her, 'Don't get pregnant!'"

Understanding the Uterine Septum Diagnosis

Hailey elaborated that before her pregnancy, Dr. Aliabadi had identified a uterine septum during medical examinations. This anatomical abnormality involves a thin wall of tissue dividing the uterine cavity, which can vary in severity from mild to severe. "Dr. A kept saying, 'Well, we need to look at this and keep an eye on it before you get pregnant because it could potentially be an issue. I don't really know. We've got to see. I might have to give you a small surgery for it. Not sure,'" Hailey recalled. She initially dismissed concerns, stating, "Okay. Well, I'm not thinking about getting pregnant right now, so we'll just cross that bridge when we get there. And then I magically got pregnant."

Dr. Aliabadi described the moment Hailey informed her of the pregnancy: "And then she calls me, and she's like, 'I'm pregnant!' And I'm like, 'No!'" The physician explained that a uterine septum is typically a genetic condition where a thin wall protrudes into the uterine cavity, potentially interfering with pregnancy. Hailey's case was classified as moderate, measuring approximately one to two centimeters during ultrasound assessment.

Significant Pregnancy Risks Revealed

The medical implications of this condition were substantial. Dr. Aliabadi disclosed that Hailey faced a 25 to 40 percent risk of miscarriage due to the uterine septum, along with a 10 to 20 percent risk of preterm delivery. "Which I think was our bigger scare," Hailey acknowledged. "Because we realized as the baby was growing, the septum was, you know, expanding. Everything was opening and doing what it needed to do, luckily."

Medical Context and Prevalence

According to the Cleveland Clinic, many women remain unaware they have a septate uterus until they become pregnant or attempt conception. Although considered rare, this uterine abnormality affects approximately 1.5 in 100 women globally, making it one of the more common congenital uterine anomalies.

Challenging Birth Experience

Hailey has previously spoken about the difficulties surrounding the birth of her son, Jack Blues, who is now 16 months old. In a May 2025 interview with Vogue, she described childbirth as "the hardest thing I've ever done." She experienced leaking amniotic fluid and required induction at 39 weeks of pregnancy. "That s*** was so crazy. That was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labor, and I labored for a few hours. No epidural, nothing," she recounted.

After 18 hours of labor, Jack was born, but Hailey encountered serious postpartum complications. She suffered a postpartum hemorrhage, characterized by severe bleeding after childbirth. Medical staff performed several procedures to control the bleeding before Hailey could finally hold and bond with her newborn son.

This revelation highlights the complex medical challenges some women face during pregnancy and childbirth, even when outcomes are ultimately successful. Hailey Bieber's openness about her uterine septum diagnosis and subsequent pregnancy journey provides valuable insight into reproductive health issues that affect numerous women worldwide.
