Finnian Garbutt first detected a lump behind his ear in late 2020, initially attributing it to an in-grown hair. After lockdown restrictions eased, a visit to his barber raised significant concerns when it was noted that the lump had grown quite substantially. This led to a diagnosis of melanoma in 2021, with the devastating news in 2024 that his cancer was terminal, arriving just two weeks before the birth of his daughter, Saoirse.
