Mum's Botched BBL Nightmare: Infection and Blood Clot After £6k Surgery
A mother-of-three has revealed how she nearly died following a disastrous Brazilian Butt Lift procedure that left her with a severe infection and a life-threatening blood clot. Josephina Finch, 38, from Canterbury, Kent, spent approximately £6,000 on the surgery in Spain, hoping to achieve a curvier figure, but instead faced a harrowing medical ordeal.
Cosmetic Dream Turns to Medical Emergency
Josephina travelled to Spain in October 2024 for the BBL and implants, believing it to be a safer option than Turkey after hearing horror stories. However, just seven days after the painful procedure, she began feeling unwell and returned to the clinic. There, a nurse pressed her buttocks together, causing fluid to gush from an inch-long wound, exposing a hole where the incision had been made.
The make-up artist was told her implants were infected, but had to wait eight agonising days for the surgeon to return from holiday to remove them. "I thought I would die," Josephina admitted, describing the terrifying wait. After the implants were finally extracted, she flew back to the UK, only to develop nerve pain in her leg.
Blood Clot Diagnosis and Near-Fatal Complications
Suspicious of a blood clot, Josephina insisted on blood thinners from her doctor. An ultrasound four days later confirmed her fears, revealing a large clot in the back of her leg. The situation worsened when she experienced sharp chest pains a day after starting the medication, prompting her to drive herself to hospital.
Doctors warned that the clot could have moved to her lung, potentially causing death if she hadn't requested the blood thinners. "I could have died if I hadn't asked for them," she said, highlighting the critical nature of her self-advocacy.
Lasting Health Anxiety and Regret
The traumatic experience has left Josephina with persistent health anxiety and guilt as a mother. "I felt really guilty about it, it's all my fault," she confessed. "It's given me bad anxiety, worrying that something else is going to go wrong. I'll never be the same again."
She now regrets seeking an "instant" fix through surgery, noting that doctors have warned she might need lifelong blood thinners if another clot occurs. Instead, Josephina has turned to weightlifting at the gym, achieving a more natural figure through exercise. "I should have just done that in the first place," she reflected, urging others to consider safer alternatives.
