Paul Chuckle Launches Charity Thank You Tour Across the United Kingdom
Comedian Paul Elliott, famously known as Paul Chuckle from the beloved Chuckle Brothers duo, is embarking on a heartfelt charity "thank you" tour spanning the entire length of the United Kingdom. The 78-year-old entertainer will commence his journey from John O'Groats, aiming to travel down to Land's End in support of Marie Curie's Great Daffodil Appeal.
Supporting a Cause Close to His Heart
Paul Chuckle has served as an official ambassador for Marie Curie since October 2016, a role deeply personal to him. The charity's nurses provided compassionate end-of-life care to his brother, Barry Elliott, who passed away from bone cancer in 2018 at the age of 73. This tour marks the 40th anniversary of the Great Daffodil Appeal, with Paul hoping to raise an impressive £40,000 to aid the charity's vital work.
The Great Daffodil Appeal is dedicated to supporting individuals with terminal illnesses and their families, ensuring they receive expert care and dignity during challenging times.
A Unique Journey on the "Daff Bike"
Throughout his tour, Paul will be riding a distinctive yellow "Daff bike," a Marie Curie-branded version of the iconic two-seater Chuckle bike. This playful vehicle will help him connect with supporters, volunteers, and staff across the country, allowing him to express gratitude directly to those who have contributed to the charity's mission over the decades.
Paul shared his enthusiasm, stating, "I'm incredibly proud to be a Marie Curie ambassador. Marie Curie helped care for my brother Barry at the end of his life in 2018, so it's a charity very close to my heart. When you think about it, there's only one chance to give someone the best possible end of life."
Raising Awareness and Funds
He continued, "That's why the Great Daffodil Appeal is so important. Every penny raised will help Marie Curie provide expert end-of-life care and support to people with a terminal illness and those close to them. So, when I heard it was the 40th anniversary, I knew I wanted to do something big and something fun."
While Paul acknowledges he won't be cycling the entire route like many fundraisers, he is excited to travel via the Daff bike, meet numerous supporters, and raise substantial funds. His goal is to personally thank as many people as possible for their unwavering support.
Charity Leadership Applauds the Effort
Matthew Reed, Chief Executive Officer at Marie Curie, emphasized the critical need for such initiatives. "Every three minutes, someone dies without the end-of-life care they need. The Great Daffodil Appeal gives Marie Curie the chance to provide expert care and support to more people, whatever their illness. Care that protects someone's dignity – instead of leaving them alone or in avoidable pain."
Reed added, "A huge thank you to Paul for taking on this mammoth tour of the UK and thank you to our loyal supporters and volunteers for the last 40 years of support for the Great Daffodil Appeal."
This tour not only highlights Paul Chuckle's dedication to charitable causes but also underscores the ongoing importance of community support in providing essential end-of-life care across the nation.
