Nicola Roberts has revealed she underwent surgery at 22 weeks pregnant to 'help keep baby in', sharing an update with fans on social media. The expectant mother, 40, took to Instagram on Tuesday to post a series of photos showing off her blooming baby bump while explaining her recent medical procedure.
Surgery and Bed Rest
The Girls Aloud singer wrote: 'Some pics I took this week.. Hasn’t it been so nice to really feel spring.. I’ve been under instruction not to do much since I had the surgery at 22 weeks to help keep baby in. Hitting that 34 week mark was a big relief.' She added that she now has only a few weeks left and admitted: 'Safe to say, this last bit is not the easiest is it?! In one breath, it will be nice to feel more comfortable again but I will also really miss my bump and having this tiny little thing in there.'
In the photos, Nicola could be seen showing off her bare bump while enjoying a cup of tea in bed. Another image captured her sitting in her car during the warm weather, wearing sunglasses and eating an ice lolly. As part of her bed rest, she shared that she has been watching The Real Housewives.
Pregnancy Announcement and Engagement
Nicola announced she is expecting her first child with fiancé Mitch Hahn on Christmas Day via Instagram. She wrote: 'Mitch and I have had the most magical Christmas Day sharing the most precious news with our families. We’ve been keeping a secret. We are five months pregnant! We can’t wait to meet our little one in the spring x.' Nicola and the former footballer, 37, became engaged one year ago during a romantic trip to the south of France.
Baby Shower and Friends' Support
Earlier this month, Nicola enjoyed a reunion with Girls Aloud bandmate Kimberley Walsh as they celebrated the impending arrival with a Bridgerton-themed baby shower. The pair headed to The Lanesborough for a swanky afternoon tea, with Nicola showing off her growing bump in a chic navy blue dress. Kimberley shared snaps on Instagram, including a sweet babygrow with an elegant floral print that guests decorated. Laura Whitmore was also among the attendees, showing off her own bump as she prepares to welcome her second child.
Third Trimester Update
Last month, Nicola shared an update with fans, revealing she had entered the third trimester. She posted mirror selfies in a black sports bra and tracksuit bottoms, displaying her growing bump. The caption read: 'Bump-date ✨ it's been a little while.. We're doing super well and safely in our third trimester now. Feeling more and more excited by the day. Sending love to all the mumma's to be. Especially the first time ones xxx.'
West End Show Withdrawal
Back in January, Nicola revealed she had to pull out of her West End show ahead of a surgical operation. She had been starring as the goddess Persephone in the hit musical Hadestown at the Lyric Theatre.
