Doctor-Recommended 25p Drink Promises Glowing Skin and Smaller Waist
25p Drink for Glowing Skin and Smaller Waist

A simple drink costing mere pennies is gaining traction online for its bold promise to "clean your gut" and transform your body. The viral trend has left many pondering whether the claims stack up or if it's too good to be true.

The Viral Recipe

The advice comes from TikTok creator Doctor GP Official, who has more than 260,000 followers and 1.4 million likes. In the widely shared video, which has racked up over 63,000 likes and nearly 1,000 comments, he promotes a morning "gut cleanse" made with everyday ingredients.

"Clean your gut and flush out up to 3kg of waste... you'll feel lighter, your skin will glow, and your waist may shrink," the social media medical professional claims. The recipe involves warm water, chia seeds, honey, and lemon juice consumed on an empty stomach over five days.

Ingredients and Their Benefits

Chia seeds have become a popular health trend recently, particularly for their fibre content and digestive benefits. According to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, they are rich in soluble fibre which can support gut health and digestion. Fibre plays a key role in keeping the digestive system moving efficiently. The NHS says fibre helps prevent constipation and supports overall gut function.

Honey also has been linked to potential digestive and antimicrobial benefits. Research cited by the National Institute of Health suggests it contains compounds that may support gut bacteria and reduce inflammation. Meanwhile, lemon juice is commonly associated with hydration and vitamin C intake. The British Nutrition Foundation claims vitamin C supports skin health and immune function.

Expert Caution

Experts are cautious about claims of "flushing out" large amounts of waste from the body, however. According to the NHS, the digestive system naturally removes waste without the need for a 'detox drink'. Claims of losing "up to 3kg of waste" are also disputed. The British Dietetic Association says rapid weight loss linked to detoxes is often temporary and not due to the loss of fat.

That said, improving your hydration and fibre intake can make people feel less bloated. The NHS notes that increasing fibre and fluids may help reduce bloating and improve digestion over time.

Social Media Reactions

Social media users were quick to flood the comments of the TikTok video with their reactions. One said: "Yes, this is proven and tested." Another added: "Damn, this recipe works like a charm," while a third continued: "Appreciate your tips doctor, very helpful." One fan issued an urgent warning, however. "Remember to soak the chia seeds first," they urged, citing the risk of increased choking risk.
