Former MAFS Star Katie Johnston Celebrates Major Weight Loss Victory
Katie Johnston, the former Married At First Sight bride, has completely transformed her life and is now thriving after achieving her goal weight. The 38-year-old announced this milestone on social media last month, expressing immense pride in her accomplishment.
A Health Scare That Sparked Change
Johnston's journey began with a frightening health diagnosis. A DEXA scan revealed she had dangerous levels of visceral fat, the type that wraps around internal organs and is linked to serious conditions like heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. At the time, she weighed 108kg.
"I wasn't chasing a goal weight - I was running from an early death," Johnston told Daily Mail, highlighting the urgency behind her transformation.
Overcoming Previous Struggles
Before this breakthrough, Johnston had attempted weight loss medication in mid-2024 when she was 112kg, but stopped due to severe side effects including extreme fatigue and nausea. Her weight then plateaued during filming for season 12 of Married At First Sight in 2025.
However, she persevered, losing almost 30kg in just 12 weeks last year and continuing to shed more weight since. In just three months, she dropped four dress sizes and reduced her visceral fat to safe levels.
Life-Changing Results
The physical and mental benefits have been profound. "I'm stronger. My back pain is gone. I sleep through the night. I can hike a mountain without stopping 20 times. And I've got my zest for adventure back," Johnston shared enthusiastically.
She expressed her joy on social media, writing: "I'm so freaking proud of myself! And knowing exactly what I needed to do to lose the dangerous visceral fat was so so so helpful! I've cheated an early death. Oh my goodness. I'm unbelievably happy and so glad I didn't stay down."
Building a Wellness Community
Now, Johnston is channeling her experience into helping others. She's in the process of launching The Way To Wellness with Katie, a community centered around health journeys. She also plans to write a book about her transformation and speak publicly about the connection between trauma, body image, and health.
"If you're struggling to find momentum, inspiration or even hope, you're not alone, and you're not broken. I've got your back. Take the pressure off and approach the process with self-love," she advised those facing similar challenges.
A Personal Triumph
Reflecting on her achievement, Johnston emphasized the personal nature of her victory. "Mostly, I want to thank myself. For finally letting love in and trusting the process. I saved my own life. I am my own hero," she declared, sharing images of her trim new figure that showcase her remarkable transformation.
Her story serves as an inspiring example of how addressing health concerns with determination and self-compassion can lead to life-altering results.
