This Morning presenter Alison Hammond has made a startling confession about her time on Strictly Come Dancing, recalling an "awful" and mortifying incident during a live performance. The television personality, who rose to fame on Big Brother in 2002, opened up about the embarrassing moment during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show.
A Candid Revelation on National Television
While appearing alongside guests including Ruth Jones, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Richard Ayoade, and Kathryn Newton, Hammond recounted the specific incident from week seven of the 2014 competition. She described performing to Robin Williams' "Friend Like Me" with professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec, who was her partner that season.
The Unfortunate Lift Incident
"There is a moment where he does a cartwheel and I had to kind of pick him up and then help him over," Hammond explained. "He goes into this cartwheel and I pick him up and I break wind. I look at him and I go, 'Let's never talk about this again.'"
The 51-year-old presenter admitted she hadn't realized how heavy Skorjanec would be, saying "it literally took the wind out of me" during the lift. She described the overall experience as "awful," particularly because the original choreography had called for Skorjanec to lift her, but they reversed the move when he struggled with her weight.
Reflections on Her Strictly Experience
Despite the embarrassing moment, Hammond spoke fondly of her time on the BBC dance competition and her partnership with Skorjanec. The duo ultimately placed 10th in the 2014 series, which Hammond described as a positive experience overall.
"I had Aljaz Skorjanec and he was absolutely incredible," she said. "He was so amazing to me and gentle as well and kind. I've never experienced anything bad really." This comment comes amid recent Strictly scandals involving professional dancers Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni Pernice being dropped from the show.
Beyond Strictly: New Projects and Career
During the same television appearance, Hammond also discussed her new programme, Your Song, which she described as "one of the most beautiful shows ever." The format features people from around the country performing songs that hold deep emotional significance for them.
"Your Song is exactly that. It's your song that you feel emotionally attached to - it got you through a rough time at school or you know, it reminds you of someone who has passed on," Hammond explained. "People go on stage who have never sung before and they sing a song to a random audience."
Alison Hammond's television career has spanned numerous popular programmes since her Big Brother debut, including I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! and as presenter of The Great British Bake Off. Her latest revelations add another chapter to her colorful broadcasting history.
