Chloe Ferry Returns to Reality TV to Overcome Stigma

Reality television personality Chloe Ferry has candidly discussed the deeply personal reasons behind her decision to return to the reality TV spotlight, while also revealing the lasting emotional trauma that continues to affect her daily life. The 30-year-old star, who first rose to fame on MTV's Geordie Shore in 2015, has now signed up for the Netflix reality competition series Inside, aiming to fundamentally shift public perception of her character.

Breaking Free from the Geordie Shore Persona

In an exclusive interview with The Sun newspaper, Chloe Ferry explained the significant challenges she faces in distancing herself from her Geordie Shore reputation. "Everyone has this Geordie Shore stigma. It's really hard to get away from that," she revealed. "We've grown up since we were 19 years old on TV. I'm just hoping doing Inside will actually show who I truthfully am."

Ferry noted that people who meet her in person often express surprise at the difference between her television persona and her actual personality. "A lot of people who meet me, they go, 'Hey, you're very different to what you were on TV'. Everyone thinks I'm psycho Chloe," she shared, referencing the exaggerated character she portrayed during her Geordie Shore tenure.

Overcoming Past Trauma and Backlash

The reality star admitted to significant apprehension about returning to television, citing previous negative experiences that have left lasting scars. "I was worried. I've had bad experiences before from programmes where I've had a lot of backlash and, mentally and physically, it does affect you," Ferry confessed. "What I really hope is that doing this, it shows the happy, bubbly me."

Created and hosted by the popular YouTube collective The Sidemen, Inside features celebrity contestants and online personalities competing in various challenges for a substantial £1 million prize fund. Contestants face deductions from the jackpot for both challenge failures and purchases from the show's tuck shop, adding strategic complexity to the competition.

A New Direction in Reality Television

Ferry emphasized that her participation in Inside represents a deliberate departure from her previous television work. "The main reason I did it is I just feel like it's totally different from what I've done before," she explained. "I've done every single reality TV programme, so I just want to set myself out my comfort zone and honestly it's like the best experience that I've ever done."

Regarding potential winnings from the competition, Ferry revealed her philanthropic intentions: "If I won I'd definitely, definitely give some money to an animal charity and then I'd probably invest it."

The Psychological Toll of Fame

Beyond her television career, Chloe Ferry opened up about the substantial psychological impact that fame and public scrutiny have had on her wellbeing. Despite seeking professional help through therapy and life coaching sessions, she continues to grapple with self-confidence issues stemming from years of online abuse.

Recalling a particularly emotional moment during filming where she discussed body image struggles, Ferry shared: "I had a really upsetting moment. I was just speaking about past trauma – getting massively trolled about the way I look – and I started crying."

Confronting Years of Online Abuse

The reality star provided harrowing details about the nature of the trolling she has endured since her teenage years. "Imagine being a 19-year-old girl and you're getting called fat, ugly, your nose is too big, you've got no bum," she described. "Throughout my teenage life to my 30s, I was called worse than s***."

Ferry acknowledged the lengthy healing process required to overcome such sustained psychological damage. "I've seen a life coach, I've seen a therapist. You've just got to heal from it, which will obviously take a long time," she stated. "When you're brought into this world, you're not brought into it to get this hate."

Body Image and Cosmetic Procedures

Chloe Ferry, who has undergone various cosmetic procedures throughout her career, expressed doubts about ever fully recovering her previous self-confidence. "I do feel a lot better about myself, but I don't think I'll ever get back to feeling my best," she admitted, highlighting the lasting impact of years of public criticism about her appearance.
