Strictly Star Dianne Buswell Marks First Week of Motherhood with Baby Bowie
Professional dancer Dianne Buswell has joyfully celebrated one full week as a mother after welcoming her first child, a son named Bowden Mark Richard Sugg, with her partner, vlogger Joe Sugg. The couple announced the birth on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, and Buswell, aged 36, has since shared intimate glimpses into their new family life on social media.
Sweet Family Moments Shared on Instagram
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Buswell uploaded a photo of herself cradling baby Bowie at home, captioning it, "Our first weekend of many together my little Bowie." She humorously added, "P.S. Can confirm he did not inherit my toe thumb," referencing a playful joke about her physical traits. The image captured the tender bond between mother and child during their initial days together.
Buswell also revealed that Sugg, 34, treated her to a romantic gesture, making her breakfast in bed with a bowl of fruit and yoghurt. She shared a photo to her story with the caption, "When daddy makes you breakfast in bed," highlighting the supportive and loving dynamic in their household as they adjust to parenthood.
Meaning Behind the Baby's Name and Emotional Reflections
The couple's son, affectionately called Bowie, was given the middle name Mark as a tribute to Buswell's father, who underwent cancer treatment in 2023. This thoughtful naming choice adds a personal and emotional layer to the celebration of their new arrival.
Reflecting on the experience, Buswell expressed overwhelming emotions, stating she had "never felt a love" like the one she experienced in the first few days of parenthood. She described it as "the most magical time of my life," underscoring the profound joy and connection she feels with her newborn son.
AI Baby Photo Scam Preceded Birth
Bowden's arrival comes just under a month after the couple dealt with a bizarre incident involving fake AI-generated pictures of their baby, which were circulated online before the birth. Sugg addressed the situation in an Instagram video, explaining that family and friends had been misled by the images.
"I woke up this morning with loads of family and friends messaging me saying, 'Oh, congrats on the news. I thought you'd tell us first before it was on the internet,'" Sugg said. He clarified, "This is AI. Look – that's not me. I don't know who it is but that's not me. That's not my chin. It's not my hair, unfortunately. That's not Dianne, that's not our baby – although I do hope he's that cute. He's not here." This incident highlighted the challenges of navigating misinformation in the digital age, making the actual birth all the more special.
Strictly Come Dancing Context and Future Uncertainties
The happy news arrives amid rumours of significant changes within the Strictly Come Dancing cast ahead of the new series. Buswell's future on the show remains unconfirmed, adding to the speculation surrounding several professional dancers.
Karen Hauer, the show's longest-running female pro, has confirmed her departure this weekend, while other dancers like Gorka Márquez, Luba Mushtuk, Michelle Tsiakkas, and Nadiya Bychkova are also rumoured to be leaving. This potential mass cull casts a shadow over the Strictly community, making Buswell's personal milestone a bright spot.
Buswell and Sugg first met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018 when they were paired together in the competition. They advanced to the final but ultimately lost the Glitterball trophy to presenter Stacey Dooley and her now-partner Kevin Clifton. Their relationship, which blossomed from the show, has now culminated in this joyful family expansion, bringing a sense of continuity and happiness to their fans.
