The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expanding their creative portfolio with a new scripted drama series for Netflix, set against the backdrop of the elite polo world. This untitled project, based in Wellington, Florida, will explore the intense rivalries between two polo teams and the powerful families behind them.
Latest Venture Under Netflix Deal
This marks the couple's latest production under their first-look agreement with Netflix, which grants the streaming giant priority access to projects from their Archewell Productions company. A spokesperson for the Sussexes confirmed the development and indicated that further announcements regarding productions with Netflix and other platforms are expected soon.
Creative Team and Production Details
According to industry reports from Deadline, Francisca X Hu, known for her work on the television series Dynasty, has been tapped to write the series and will serve as an executive producer alongside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The couple will take active roles as executive producers on the show, bringing their personal interest in polo to the project.
This isn't the Sussexes' first foray into polo-themed content. In 2024, they executive produced the docuseries "Polo," which offered viewers an intimate look at the lives of professional polo players both on and off the field. The new scripted drama represents a natural progression from that documentary work into fictional storytelling.
Context of Recent Projects
The announcement comes at an interesting time for the couple's media ventures. Earlier this year, viewing figures revealed that the second season of Meghan's lifestyle series "With Love, Meghan" failed to break into Netflix's top 1,000 most-watched programs. The show, which launched in March 2025, heavily promoted Meghan's lifestyle brand As Ever and its products including raspberry jam, herbal teas, and chocolates.
Brand Developments and Partnerships
Meanwhile, As Ever recently concluded its partnership with Netflix, with a spokesperson explaining that the brand was "now ready to stand on its own." The products are said to be inspired by Meghan's "long-lasting love of cooking, entertaining, and hostessing with ease."
Harry and Meghan originally signed their landmark deal with Netflix in 2020, a contract reportedly worth more than $100 million (£74 million). This agreement included both the lucrative production deal and the first-look arrangement that gives Netflix first refusal on projects developed through Archewell Productions.
Future Production Plans
The Sussexes' spokesperson has suggested that more production announcements are imminent, indicating that the couple remains actively engaged in developing content across multiple streaming platforms. This new polo drama represents just one facet of their expanding media empire as they continue to build their post-royal careers in entertainment production.
The project's Florida setting in Wellington—a well-known hub for professional polo—promises to provide authentic backdrop for the drama's exploration of wealth, competition, and family dynamics within this exclusive sporting world.
