Jackie O's Radio Return Delayed Another Week After On-Air Clash
Jackie O's Radio Return Delayed Another Week

The much-anticipated return of radio queen Jackie O Henderson to the airwaves has been postponed for an additional week, extending her absence from the popular Kyle & Jackie O show. The 50-year-old presenter was expected to resume her duties on Monday, but co-host Kyle Sandilands confirmed she will remain off air this week as well.

Uncertain Timeline for Return

Speaking briefly about Henderson's continued absence, Sandilands revealed he has no more information than listeners regarding her exact return date. He stated that Henderson would come back to the show "at some stage," while hinting that staff managing the situation remain uncertain about the timeline. This development follows recent reports suggesting the long-running radio program might be ending, which Sandilands vehemently denied.

Sandilands Addresses Show Rumors

During Friday's broadcast, Sandilands addressed headlines claiming he had been pulled from the airwaves, insisting his own recent absence was simply due to a sick day. The presenter explained he had been up throughout the night caring for his unwell three-year-old son Otto, who had been coughing persistently.

"I haven't vanished, everyone," Sandilands declared at the top of the show. "According to the newspapers, The Kyle & Jackie O show was over, and I vanished. It just goes to show you can never believe what you read in any of the newspapers."

He added that it was "hard enough" to front the show on a good day, let alone after a night of "broken sleep" from caring for his sick child.

Aftermath of Explosive On-Air Clash

The extended absence comes in the wake of an explosive on-air confrontation that left Henderson in tears last Friday. Sandilands had slammed his co-host over what he described as her apparent "fixation" with astrology during a discussion about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. When Henderson attempted to defend herself and accused him of launching an attack, Sandilands insisted he was merely expressing the "facts."

Regret and Reconciliation Efforts

Sandilands has since expressed regret over the fiery exchange that deeply offended his co-host. On Wednesday, he admitted wishing he had handled things differently during the broadcast.

"I obviously upset her. Maybe, in hindsight, I shouldn't have said it on the air. But we say a lot of things on the air here," Sandilands acknowledged. "It was never meant to hurt her feelings and obviously it did. I regret hurting her feelings. No one wants to hurt someone. Especially someone you care for."

The presenter emphasized that he wants everyone to be happy upon Henderson's return, stating: "I want her to be happy and enjoy it. I also want the same thing." He humorously added that he didn't care if other producers or staff members were happy, as he would "swap them all out in a heartbeat" for his co-star.

Meanwhile, management continues to handle the situation as the show moves forward without one of its key personalities. The extended absence marks a significant disruption to the popular radio program that has entertained audiences for years, with listeners eagerly awaiting Henderson's eventual return to her regular broadcasting slot alongside Sandilands.
