The King and Queen’s state visit to the United States will “proceed as planned” following high-level discussions after what the White House has termed an attempted assassination of President Donald Trump.
Security Review After Incident
Charles and Camilla’s security arrangements were reviewed in the wake of Saturday’s violent incident at a Washington media dinner. Shots were fired, and President Trump, the first lady, and senior administration officials were rushed from the room by the Secret Service.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Following discussions on both sides of the Atlantic through the day, and acting on advice of Government, we can confirm the state visit by Their Majesties will proceed as planned.
“The King and Queen are most grateful to all those who have worked at pace to ensure this remains the case and are looking forward to the visit getting under way tomorrow.”
Visit Schedule
The four-day state visit is scheduled to begin on Monday. The King and Queen are expected to engage in a series of diplomatic and cultural events, underscoring the strength of the UK-US relationship.
