This Morning fans have unleashed a torrent of criticism following the ITV show's latest fashion segment, with viewers branding the outfits "hideous" and drawing unflattering comparisons to cartoon characters and festive treats. The segment, which aired on Thursday, March 19, featured fashion expert Laura Puddy presenting a series of looks inspired by spring's must-have colours alongside hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard.
Viewers Slam Colour Combinations as "Awful"
Laura Puddy, 40, discussed trends expected on the high street this summer, focusing on how to dress in colour. Models showcased outfits in bright shades, including yellow, pink, green, and brown. Model Rachel wore a bright green and brown combination with a pleather jacket, shorts, and cream heels, while Diana was dressed in blush pink and muted tan, and Anduana in a striking royal blue and yellow ensemble.
However, viewers at home were far from impressed, taking to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their displeasure. Many criticised the high-contrast colour combinations, with one viewer fuming, "I thought these people were supposed to be experts? The outfits are hideous." Another added, "I'm not convinced this fashion woman has eyes," while a third simply wrote, "Awful colour combos."
Comparisons to Minions and Easter Eggs
The backlash intensified as viewers likened the outfits to popular cultural references. One commenter noted, "The ultimate compliment, she looks like a chocolate egg," referring to the models resembling Easter eggs. Another viewer concluded, "Jaysus, give her goggles and she’d be a minion," directly comparing the look to characters from Despicable Me.
Some fans called for drastic action, with one stating, "That outfit is not in any way flattering. Stop being silly," and another complaining, "F**king hell. I could dress these ladies better." The outcry led to calls for the stylist to be sacked from the show, highlighting the depth of viewer dissatisfaction.
History of Fashion Segment Controversies
This is not the first time This Morning's fashion segment has faced criticism. In January, viewers slammed the show for "doing over" weight loss makeover guests with what they deemed "hideous" outfits. The segment featured Adele, Danielle, and Emily, who had lost weight with the help of weight loss injections, receiving a wardrobe makeover from Lisa Snowdon, 53.
Despite the women expressing pleasure with their new looks on screen, fans at home were unconvinced. One viewer penned, "That dress is hideous, aged the poor woman 15 years," while another chimed in, "No, it's frumpy, what a vile dress. Trousers and a silky top would look much better." A third commented, "Sorry, Adele, Snowdon has done you over, dress is s**t," and a fourth added, "Hideous dress, poor woman."
Weight Loss Jab Promotion Criticised
Additionally, some viewers were left furious about the weight loss segment, feeling it overly promoted weight loss jabs. One fan wrote, "Whilst I'm happy for these ladies, they'll look and feel amazing, can we stop applauding the weight loss jabs quite so much?" Another added, "How often are they going to mention weight loss jabs on today’s show?" as a third said, "Here we go with the weight loss jab promotion."
This Morning continues to air weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX, but this latest fashion segment has undoubtedly left a sour taste for many loyal viewers, sparking debates about style, expertise, and the show's content direction.
