Donald Trump has stated that Iran can contact the United States to negotiate an end to the ongoing war, following the cancellation of a trip by his envoys to Pakistan. The US president made the remarks in an interview with Fox News, saying: “If they want to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us.”
Diplomatic efforts intensify
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts, traveling to Pakistan, Oman, and Russia for discussions. This comes after the absence of US counterparts in Islamabad, which had been expected to facilitate peace talks. The cancellation of the US envoy visit was attributed to a lack of a clear plan to end the war.
Economic repercussions
The ongoing conflict and the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz have led to a significant surge in global oil prices, impacting energy exports worldwide. The UK government is escalating plans to address potential shortages, with a minister warning that higher energy, food, and flight prices could persist for an extended period due to the conflict.
Trump's offer to negotiate directly comes amid heightened tensions and economic pressures, as both sides weigh the costs of continued hostilities. The situation remains fluid, with further diplomatic developments expected in the coming days.
