Cardi B Throws Support Behind Jasmine Crockett in Texas Senate Primary
Rapper Cardi B has publicly endorsed US Representative Jasmine Crockett in the closely watched Texas Democratic Senate primary. Crockett, a House member frequently targeted by former President Donald Trump, is competing against state Representative James Talarico for the Democratic nomination. Early voting has commenced ahead of the official Election Day this Tuesday.
Democrats Aim to Flip Texas Senate Seat
Democrats are optimistic that this could be the year they finally secure a Senate seat in Texas, a state traditionally dominated by Republicans. Their chances are bolstered by the intense internal conflict within the Republican Party. The seat is currently held by Republican Senator John Cornyn, who is seeking re-election but faces significant challenges in his own primary.
Despite controversies, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton remains a favorite among MAGA supporters and leads in polls, with Representative Wesley Hunt also challenging Cornyn. Cardi B, known for her vocal support of Democratic causes and her campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024, praised Crockett as a dedicated fighter for constituents.
Cardi B's Endorsement and Campaign Push
On Thursday, Cardi B took to her Instagram story to urge voters to support Crockett. "So listen up, ya'll. Early primary voting is happening right now in Texas and we need Jasmine Crockett to win," she stated, clarifying that Crockett is running for Senate. She emphasized Crockett's commitment to representing voter issues, saying, "And if you want somebody who is going to fight for your right, if you want somebody that's gonna go up there and represent you and represent your issues, please vote for my sister Jasmine Crockett."
Cardi B further encouraged her audience to act immediately, posting, "Vote right now. This counts so much. Vote right now." She highlighted that Crockett would "fight her best" to ensure her constituents' voices are heard in Washington.
Polling and Candidate Dynamics
According to the Real Clear Politics polling average, Crockett currently holds a three-point lead over Talarico in the Democratic primary. Crockett has gained national recognition partly due to her public disputes with prominent Republicans, such as famously referring to then Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene as a "bleach blonde, bad built, butch body" during a Congressional hearing.
In contrast, Talarico recently garnered attention when CBS blocked his interview on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, despite Colbert's objections. Polling indicates that while Crockett leads in the primary, Talarico—a white man—performs better against Republican candidates in general election matchups.
Republican Primary and General Election Prospects
A similar trend is evident on the Republican side, where the more moderate incumbent, John Cornyn, polls better than the MAGA-aligned Ken Paxton in general election scenarios. Former President Donald Trump has not issued an endorsement in this race.
National Republican Senatorial Committee polling, obtained by the Daily Mail, reveals that Cornyn outperforms Paxton in hypothetical general elections. Cornyn leads Talarico by three points and Crockett by seven points. Interestingly, Talarico would defeat Paxton by three points, while Crockett trails Paxton by only one point in a head-to-head matchup.
As early voting continues, both Democratic and Republican primaries remain highly competitive, with outcomes potentially shaping the broader political landscape in Texas.
