Democrat Congressional Candidate's Controversial Social Media History Revealed
A Democrat candidate vying for a congressional seat in New York has been exposed for posting offensive remarks about former First Lady Melania Trump on social media several years ago. Peter Chatzky, who is aiming to unseat Republican Representative Mike Lawler in the Hudson Valley district, has a lengthy history of sharing his unfiltered thoughts on his personal Facebook page.
Vulgar Comments About Melania Trump
According to a report by The New York Times, on July 19, 2016, during the Republican National Convention where Melania Trump delivered a speech, Chatzky took to his Facebook account to publish a crude post about her. The 65-year-old tech executive wrote: 'Oh come on. You know you'd still f*** her.' In the comments section of that post, he further speculated about what her husband, Donald Trump, might charge for a 'quickie,' humorously estimating: '$800 an hour. So about $80 then. I can afford that.'
Additional Inappropriate Posts
Chatzky's social media activity extended beyond this incident. In 2017, he made a post joking about hosting a sex party after receiving a friend request from what appeared to be a spam account belonging to a random woman. He wrote: 'Some of you may know her from PTA or Junior League. Anyway, long story short, key party at my house on Friday.' A key party is a type of sex party where participants exchange partners.
Furthermore, he posted a humorous message about people paying to watch him masturbate and claimed to have video files of others doing the same, alleging he created a 'spy software.' He stated that the only way to delete the video would be to pay him the equivalent of $950 in Bitcoin, writing: 'I give you last [sic] 72 hours to transfer the funds. Next time you cover your cameras, somebody mαy wαtch it! Limit yourself to one time per month if you can't go completely NoFap.' He signed off with: 'Say hi to Susan,' referring to his wife.
Campaign Response and Political Context
Chatzky's campaign manager, Alyssa Verrelli, responded to the revelations by accusing his competitors of attempting to 'attack fellow Democrats' by dredging up decade-old posts. She told The Times: 'Peter is focused on defeating Mike Lawler in November so that we can abolish ICE and make life more affordable.' The Daily Mail has reached out to Chatzky for additional comment.
Chatzky, who has invested $5 million of his own money into his campaign, announced his candidacy in June. He is running on a platform that includes affordability, taking on Big Pharma, expanding healthcare coverage, banning politicians from trading stocks, reforming the Supreme Court, and abolishing ICE. He has over a decade of experience in local politics, including serving as mayor.
Competitive Democratic Primary
The Democrat faces a crowded field in the primary for Lawler's seat, which includes former FBI analyst John Sullivan, Air Force veteran John Cappello, and Rockland County Legislator Beth Davidson, among others. Meanwhile, Representative Mike Lawler is seeking re-election for his Hudson Valley seat after deciding against a run for governor against incumbent Kathy Hochul.
This controversy highlights the ongoing scrutiny of candidates' social media histories in modern political campaigns, particularly as old posts resurface to potentially impact electoral prospects.
