Family Pays Heartfelt Tribute to 'Extremely Loved' Son
In an emotional statement released through Leicestershire Police on Thursday, Mr Oladipo's family described him as an "extremely loved son, brother, uncle, boyfriend and friend." The family revealed that Khaleed was a dedicated Arsenal supporter and believe he was on his way home to watch his team play when the attack occurred.
The family's tribute continued: "We cannot begin to put into words how sad we are to have lost Khaleed. He was in his second year at university, and we were so proud of him. One of his main passions was football and he had played since the age of four."
Police Investigation and Post-Mortem Findings
Leicestershire Police confirmed that a post-mortem examination concluded Mr Oladipo died as a result of a stab wound to the chest. The 20-year-old student, originally from London but living in Leicester while studying, was pronounced dead in hospital on Tuesday night following the attack.
An 18-year-old suspect arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody as investigations continue. Police have not released further details about potential motives or circumstances surrounding the attack.
Family Expresses Gratitude and Seeks Justice
In their moving statement, the family expressed appreciation for those who tried to help during the tragic incident: "We want to thank the members of the public who stopped to try and help Khaleed, and the ambulance service and hospital staff who did all they could to try and save him."
The family also acknowledged police efforts, stating: "We are also really grateful to the police for their efforts in the investigation so far to ensure the person responsible is brought to justice."
The tribute concluded with a poignant message: "We are struggling to understand why anyone would do this. We know getting justice for Khaleed will not bring him back but we will make sure that he gets the justice he deserves."
