Tragic House Fire Claims Lives of Florida Family of Six

A devastating house fire in Dixie County, Florida, has resulted in the tragic deaths of six family members, including four young children and a baby. The victims have been identified as Charles ‘Jelly Roll’ Pinner Jr., his wife Lori, and their children Colton, Valkryie, Neveah, and baby Steven, with ages ranging from under one to 11 years old.

Early Morning Blaze Engulfs Family Home

The fire broke out before sunrise on Tuesday, with emergency services including deputies, firefighters, and EMS crews responding to the residential structure just before 7 a.m., according to the Dixie County Sheriff's Office. Officials have stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation, with no identifying information released out of respect for the family.

Deputies, firefighters, EMS personnel, and mutual aid partners responded and worked tirelessly at the scene. Tragically this incident resulted in multiple fatalities, the sheriff's office said in a statement. This is a heartbreaking event for our community. We ask that you keep everyone affected in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Community Stunned by Rapid and Tragic Event

Family members described the fire as unfolding with terrifying speed. Charles Pinner's sister, Bri Pinner, recounted to WCJB how a relative ran over to find the house engulfed in flames. My cousin Megan, which lives right there, ran over and was like beating on the back door and we come out and see nothing but flames, she said.

Investigators have not confirmed where the fire began, though relatives mentioned it may have started in the kitchen. The six deaths have left the tight-knit community in shock, with neighbors flooding the street to offer support.

Remembering a Devoted Father and Family Man

Loved ones remembered Charles Pinner as a devoted father whose life centered around his children and outdoor activities. He was all about his family and kids, and he loved hunting and anything he could do outdoors. Those kids were his world, Bri Pinner shared. She added that he became a family pillar after their father's death during the COVID pandemic, describing him as a big teddy bear, a nickname one of the children used.

Community Rallies with Fundraising Efforts

In response to the tragedy, businesses, churches, and residents in Old Town and surrounding areas have organized various fundraisers to help cover funeral expenses:

  • Papa Luigi's Pizza in Old Town will donate 50 percent of proceeds from February 18 through February 25 to the Pinner family.
  • Horns & Scales Outfitters is partnering with Dixie Bakers for a Facebook auction of baked goods and outdoor gear, with proceeds going directly to the family.
  • Community members are organizing memorial T-shirt sales, and First Baptist Church of Old Town plans a special love offering and benefit concert.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate the cause of the fire, with updates expected as the inquiry progresses.
