Fugitive Daniel Boakye Taunts Police in Defiant Drill Rap Video After Double Prison Escape
A convicted robber facing imminent deportation to Ghana has brazenly taunted authorities in a drill rap video posted online after escaping police custody twice in less than a week. Daniel Boakye, 21, who was serving a six-year sentence for a series of knifepoint robberies, is now a fugitive and appears to be mocking the ongoing manhunt.
Dramatic Escapes from Hospital Appointments
Boakye first escaped on Tuesday last week while being escorted from HMP Feltham in Hounslow, west London, to a medical appointment at nearby West Middlesex University Hospital. He managed to elude his prison officer escort at the hospital but was recaptured the following day at an address in Thamesmead, south-east London.
In a stunning repeat, the gang member then evaded police again on Sunday, fleeing from University Hospital Lewisham in south-east London where he was receiving medical treatment while in police custody. Officers gave chase but were unable to detain him before he left the building.
Defiant Social Media Post Mocks Authorities
Now, the prisoner—who also goes by the rapper name DSavv—has posted a video to his Instagram account, which boasts nearly 500,000 followers, seemingly celebrating his freedom. The clip, apparently filmed in a music studio and posted on Tuesday evening, shows Boakye rapping as he smokes a joint, with the caption 'I'm free'.
In the footage, Boakye brags 'I just broke out of jail like Modie'—a reference to a character in the Netflix crime drama Top Boy—and declares 'F*** the government fam, there [sic] phoneys', alongside an on-screen image of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. He audaciously adds 'Prison break, s*** fam - f*** these police', with a news article about his escape visible on a television in the background.
Background of Violent Crimes and Deportation Threat
Boakye, from Enfield, north London, was jailed for six years and five months in July 2023 for his role in multiple armed robberies. He and three accomplices—Justin Popoola, Nathan Mohalland, and a 17-year-old who cannot be named—stole more than £155,000 worth of cryptocurrency at knifepoint in a spate of thefts across London between June 2021 and January 2022.
The gang threatened victims with knives to force them to hand over phones and passwords, then siphoned the digital currency into 'hot wallets'. They were eventually caught after using stolen bank details to order takeaway meals to their homes.
Government sources confirm that Boakye's deportation to Ghana is still being 'actively pursued'. A Home Office spokesperson stated: 'All Foreign National Offenders who receive a prison sentence in the UK are referred for deportation at the earliest opportunity. We will not allow foreign criminals and illegal migrants to exploit our laws.'
Police Investigation and Public Appeal
Following Boakye's initial escape, four individuals—two women aged 20 and 51, a 17-year-old girl, and a 30-year-old man—were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The Metropolitan Police have released a mugshot and are appealing for information to locate Boakye, describing him as black, of medium height and slim build, last seen wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark Nike jacket. A Met spokeswoman said: 'We are currently reviewing this incident to fully understand the events which unfolded. The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards is aware.'
Boakye's Instagram account features images of him with masked and hooded men alongside flashy cars and motorcycles, and he is understood to have links to the gang Original Farm Boys (OFB) based in Tottenham, north London. His latest video has drawn reactions online, with one fan commenting: 'First UK rapper to escape and make a track whilst [on] the run'.
